The Wales family recently spent a month in Norfolk while George, Charlotte and Louis were on their Easter break for school, and it has been announced that Prince William will soon be returning to public duties following their break.

The Prince of Wales will be visiting Surrey and West London on 18 April to recognise and highlight organisations and the community who are having a positive environmental impact in the area.

Prince William will be in Sunbury-on-Thames seeing how a food distribution charity named Surplus to Supper delivers, sorts and repackages unused food to community groups.

Following this, he will also visit a youth centre in West London which receives regular deliveries of the surplus food and distributes it to those in need.

William is extremely passionate about environmental causes and building a waste-free world. He is the patron of The Earthshot Prize, a global environmental award that is awarded to individuals for their contributions towards environmentalism, of which tackling wastage and food surplus is a key pillar.

When Catherine first announced her cancer diagnosis, sources told PEOPLE that William would return to official duties following the children’s return to school in a “balanced, measured way”, and would depend on the needs of the Princess of Wales.

It’s reported that family members from both sides have been helping Kate and William to cope with the situation.

While classes were on, Catherine’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton have been assisting the Wales’ with school drop-offs.

“Her parents are an enduring factor in the upbringing of their grandchildren,” a palace insider previously told PEOPLE.

Whilst the Prince of Wales tried to maintain a low profile during his one-month break from public duties, William was accompanied by his eldest son Prince George at an Aston Villa football match on 11 April.

The father-son duo appeared in good spirits at the match, with the pair seen smiling, clapping and reacting to moments throughout the game.

The Duke of Sussex previously told the court the reason he is fighting for personal security is because he wants his children, Archie and Lilibet to feel safe when visiting his home country.

When Prince Harry was still a senior working member of the British royal family, he received full publicly-funded security protection provided by the government.

However, since voluntarily giving up his royal roles with wife Meghan Markle in 2020, the court declared he would receive a lesser degree of public-funded security when in the UK.

Additionally, once he moved to the United States Harry lost the right to automatic police protection. After the decision to downgrade his security, the Duke of Sussex challenged the government.

In late February 2024, the High Court rejected Prince Harry’s case, but the Duke of Sussex’s lawyers said he would appeal the ruling. It has now been confirmed that Harry’s initial bid has been rejected.

At a hearing in December 2023, the Duke of Sussex’s lawyers labelled the decision to take away his high-level security as “unlawful” and “unfair”.

Prince Harry’s lawyers also read out an excerpt from a witness statement where Harry explained why he was fighting for high-level security.

“The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the US. That cannot happen if it’s not possible to keep them safe when they are on UK soil,” the statement read.

“I cannot put my wife in danger like that and, given my experiences in life, I am reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.”

However, the government’s legal team said the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (RAVEC) have not decided Harry should not receive protection, but rather that he should not have it on the same basis.

A legal spokesperson for Prince Harry originally confirmed the Duke would be appealing the court’s decision, saying: “The duke is not asking for preferential treatment, but for a fair and lawful application of RAVEC’s own rules, ensuring that he receives the same consideration as others in accordance with RAVEC’s own written policy.”

Prince Harry was last in England in February 2024, when he visited his father King Charles III following his cancer diagnosis. The Duke only stayed in the UK for 24 hours.

It’s reported that Harry will next visit the UK in May 2024 for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, where sources claim Harry’s wife Meghan and their two children may also be making the trip to England.

Following the incident in Bondi over the weekend, members of the British royal family have released messages of support.

“My wife and I were utterly shocked and horrified to hear of the tragic stabbing incident in Bondi,” a message from King Charles III wrote.

“Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those who have been so brutally killed during such a senseless attack.

“While details of these shocking circumstances are still emerging, our thoughts are also with those who were involved in the response, and we give thanks for the bravery of the first responders and emergency services,” His Majesty shared via a statement on the royal family’s Instagram page.

The Prince and Princess of Wales also issued a statement of their own following the ordeal, taking to their social media pages to express their ‘shock’ and ‘sadness’.

“We are shocked and saddened by the terrible events in Sydney earlier today,” the message said on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s X account on Saturday evening.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected, including the loved ones of those lost and the heroic emergency responders who risked their own lives to save others.”

William and Kate signed off the message with “W & C”.

Queen Mary of Denmark has also expressed her condolences after the incident in Bondi, writing a letter to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Albanese appeared on the Kyle & Jackie-O Show on Monday, explaining that the Australian-born Danish Queen wrote a “lovely letter” where she expressed her “condolences, solidarity, concern and support” with Australia.

The six victims of the tragic attack include 47-year-old Jade Young, 25-year-old Dawn Singleton, 38-year-old Ashlee Good, 55-year-old Pikria Darchia, 30-year-old Faraz Tahir, and 27-year-old Yixuan Cheng.

Twelve other people, including a nine-month-old baby, are also being treated for their injuries in hospital.

Prince Harry, 39, and Meghan Markle’s, 42, company Archewell Productions have two nonfiction television shows in the “early stages” of production.

One of the series is created by Meghan Markle and will “celebrate the joys of cooking and gardening, entertaining and friendship.” Meghan has a well-known love of food, which has been documented thanks to her former blog The Tig. 

The Duchess of Sussex also has a new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, which focuses on food and food-related products including preserved spreads, kitchenware and cookbooks, meaning the project is one she is passionate about. Meghan will also serve as an executive producer on the show.

Meanwhile, the other series the Sussexes have in the works in one Prince Harry is particularly interested in.

The series aims to “provide viewers unprecedented access to the world of professional polo,” a sport that Harry has played for decades.

The Duke often participates in charity polo matches, including a fundraiser for a charity he co-founded in 2006, Sentebale, aimed at helping children and young people affected by poverty, inequality and HIV/AIDS in Africa.

According to a statement, “known primarily for its aesthetic and social scene, the series will pull the curtain back on the grit and passion of the sport, capturing players and all it takes to compete at the highest level.”

Both Harry and Meghan are serving as producers on the series which will be filmed primarily at the U.S. Open Polo Championship in Florida, taking place in April 2024.

Titles and release dates have not yet been confirmed for either show, but it is expected that the news will be revealed in the coming months.

The Chief Content Officer of Netflix spoke at the Next on Netflix event in February and confirmed that Meghan and Harry had several projects in development.

“They have a couple of unscripted things they’re working on with Brandon [Reigg],” they said, according to HELLO! magazine. 

“And they actually have like a bunch of development. They have a movie in development, a [scripted] series that they’re working on. So all very early development, with a movie, a TV show and a couple of unscripted shows. But yeah, the movie’s great.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a multiyear deal with Netflix following their departure from the United Kingdom and their royal roles in 2020, and thus far they have released their intimate docuseries, Harry & Meghan, the Live to Lead series and the Heart of Invictus docuseries on the streaming platform.

It was also confirmed in August 2023 that their production company Archewell Productions would be adapting Meet Me at the Lake, a romance novel by Carley Fortune, into a film.

The Regiment paid tribute to the Duke of Kent, referring to him as “a constant in a rapidly changing world”.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Kent reflected on his time as Colonel, saying: “Serving as Colonel of the Scots Guards since 1974, the longest anyone has spent in this role, has been a true honour and one which will forever fill me with great joy. 

“Through those years, I have seen the work of the Scots Guards during peacetime and war and witnessed their bravery, selfless courage and devotion to duty.” 

The Duke of Kent will be handing over the position to the Duke of Edinburgh, where Prince Edward will continue the work of the Colonelcy of the Regiment.

The Duke of Kent attended the Scots Guard annual day of commemoration and remembrance in London on Sunday, which marked his last day as Colonel.

At the event, His Royal Highness said: “To my fellow Scots Guardsmen, I am immensely proud to have served you all. 

“I am delighted that His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will continue to champion all that you do and work towards preserving your great legacy.” 

In his new position, Prince Edward will continue supporting the work of the Scots Guards and will visit the Regiment regularly.

As the new Colonel of the Scots Guards, the Duke of Edinburgh said: “The Duke of Kent has been an extraordinary Colonel of the Scots Guards. Quite apart from his depth of knowledge and keen understanding of the Regiment and all those who serve, past and present, he has been a tireless and passionate advocate.

“It is a distinct honour to be asked and entrusted by His Majesty to serve as the next Colonel. However, I accept with a degree of trepidation as I will undoubtedly be measured against the formidable record and reputation of my predecessor. I can only promise to do my best.”

Formed in 1642, The Scots Guards have played key roles in major conflicts from the Glorious Revolution of 1688, the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, the First and Second World Wars, the Falklands War and undertaken deployments to Northern Ireland, Afghanistan and Iran in more recent years.

The Regimental Lieutenant Colonel of the Scots Guard, Colonel JDL Leask, spoke about the passing over of the position into the hands of Prince Edward, saying, “The Regiment is delighted that His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will shortly become the twenty-seventh Colonel Scots Guards.

“This is a seminal moment for us. It marks the end of a remarkable era and the start of a new and exciting chapter in our long and distinguished history.”

According to sources, Harry is furious that William has become so close to their step mum Queen Camilla in the wake of Kate and King Charles’ respective illnesses.

With both their spouses stepping back from royal duties, William, 41, and Camilla, 76, have become unlikely allies, but Harry isn’t too pleased about it.

In fact, the Duke of Sussex, 39, sees their new friendship as a “betrayal” of their mum Princess Diana. “He really distrusts that William actually gets on rather well now with Camilla,” royal author Tom Quinn told The Mirror.

“Harry will see this as a betrayal. He was shocked when William realised that Camilla, far from being the monster they thought she was when they were children, is actually a rather nice woman.”

Camilla and Charles famously began an affair while Charles was still married to Diana, who felt tormented by their relationship. The couple later went on to marry in 2005.

And while Tom admits that William has come to appreciate Camilla’s “sympathetic ear” over the past few months, Harry has “never moved on” since his mother died.

“For Harry, Camilla was the wicked stepmother back then, and she still is,” he added.

Harry revealed his true feelings about Camilla when he alleged that she leaked stories to the press about him in his memoir Spare.

He later called her “dangerous” because of her connections with the media.

“There was [an] open willingness on both sides to trade information,” he said on 60 Minutes in 2023.

“And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her on the way to being Queen Consort, there was going to be people or bodies left in the street because of that.”

WHERE’S FRED?

Mary hasn’t been seen at a public event with King Frederik, 55, since March, when the couple attended an exhibit at the Amalienborg Museum in Copenhagen, but speculation about their marriage has now hit fever pitch after Mary’s three-in-a-row solo appearances.

Last November, allegations of an affair hit the couple when then-Prince Frederik was photographed walking with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova in Madrid on an unofficial trip. The incident made international news, prompting denials from both parties and threats of legal action from 47-year-old Genoveva.

In what was widely considered to be an attempt to get her errant heir back on track, the sitting Queen Margrethe announced her abdication not long after, shocking Denmark. A month later, Frederick and Mary took the throne.

Now, in news that will come as little surprise, Woman’s Day can reveal things don’t appear to have gotten better for the embattled queen since.

According to Spanish publication Hola!, Frederik allegedly took another trip to Spain in February – just days before Genoveva relaunched herself on social media – but the king was not seen visiting the socialite. To add fuel to the fire, in March it was reported that Fred and Genoveva wear matching Shamballa bracelets, which sent speculation into overdrive yet again.

PALACE UNDER FIRE

“The palace has been on the back foot with this problem, and it’s not going to go away,” adds the regal insider.

“The fact they had to come out and make a statement that his bracelet was in fact a gift from the kids just shows how much this is getting out of control. But [Fred’s] only got himself to blame for all the rumours – going back to Madrid, of all places, a mere two months after he was spotted looking cosy with another woman is insanity.”

With all eyes on the royal couple, even the family’s ski trip over Easter was fraught with controversy after the castle’s flag was left raised. This signals that at least one member of the family was still in residence.

Unconfirmed reports suggest it was youngest daughter, Princess Josephine, 13, who stayed home. However, photos from the Swiss holiday did little to quell rumours of unhappiness, with Fred and Mary seemingly unable to look each other in the eye during one ski outing.

A palace insider confirms, “Mary and Frederik haven’t looked at ease with each other since that terrible scene in November, but he’s done very little to fix it.

“Hanging her out to dry at every event in Copenhagen is deeply worrying. The big fear for an outsider like Mary is whether or not this is acceptable behaviour. She must be feeling somewhat trapped right now.”

“It’s been a mind-blowing few months of highs and lows, and no one could have prepared for it,” adds a longtime friend of Mary’s. “Mary genuinely worships Frederik, so it was a love match all the
way for her. She’s also not the type to walk away from her duties as queen to the people of Denmark. She just won’t do it.

“She is likely feeling completely stuck – she’s the queen now. It’s not like she can just get up and leave.

“Mary takes her role as Denmark’s queen very seriously, but behind those brave smiles, she will be worried this total nightmare may not ever end.”

The Sun reported that they remain amicable, with a source saying, “They were friends before their relationship blossomed. But Peter and Lindsay have gone their separate ways as the relationship simply ran its course.”

Meanwhile, Peter’s official spokesperson declined to comment, saying it was a “private matter”.

Princess Anne’s son and Lindsay first got together in 2020 following Peter’s separation from his wife Autumn Kelly, and the couple made their official debut at the Epsom Derby in June 2022.

Peter shares two children with his ex-wife, 13-year-old Savannah and 12-year-old Isla, while Lindsay also has two children of her own.

A friend of the couple described Lindsay as “a breath of fresh air”, and it’s understood that the 46-year-old introduced her to his grandmother the late Queen at Windsor in early 2022.

Insiders revealed that Peter’s decision to introduce them was a “clear sign that Lindsay has been welcomed into the family” and created hope within the family that the pair were contemplating marriage.

Sources claimed that the Queen wanted her eldest and “favourite” grandson to be happy.

Following that, the pair continuously appeared at a variety of high-profile royal family events together. These events included Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Royal Ascot, Wimbledon and the Coronation Concert in May 2023.

At the time, a friend told HELLO! that “it meant a lot” to Peter to be able to bring Lindsay to the Concert, adding: “He is in a great place at the moment and could not be happier in either his private or personal life.”

Lindsay went to school at Gordonstoun in Scotland alongside Peter’s sister Zara Tindall, and it’s believed the pair reconnected at a 2019 reunion.

It’s been confirmed that the King and Queen earned over three million Australian dollars for fulfilling their royal duties last year – and they’re set for an even bigger pay rise.

Of the three million that they earned, Mary took home a casual $498,359 which was set aside as a direct ‘grant’.

Most of the couple’s joint income, which is paid for by the state, also covers other ‘dependent’ members of the royal family (including their four children) as well as housing and staff costs.

This meant that in 2023, the King and Queen of Denmark were left with just under $640,000 (AUD) to spend themselves on travel, clothing, and personal expenses.

It’s reported that Frederik and Mary’s income will only continue to increase since they ascended to the throne on 14 January 2024.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark took home a huge grant of 13 million Australian dollars last year, plus an additional private allowance of $2.9 million AUD.

So, Mary and Frederik will likely see their income take quite a significant jump since Frederik has become the ruling monarch.

However, the Danish government has made known their plans to change their appanage system – appanage refers to the grant of an estate, title, office, money or anything of value to young children of a monarch.

The Danish government is likely to introduce new legislation that will determine the amount of money given to the royal family as well as how it will be divided in terms of paying for royal related versus personal expenses.

According to the Danish press, the exact amount Frederik and Mary will be granted is still unknown as the government hasn’t yet sat on the issue.

In saying that, the Danish royals are exempt from paying tax and also have the ability to earn separate private income.

The King and Queen of Denmark have pursued private income streams for many years, and one example of this is renting out their luxury ski lodge in Switzerland on Airbnb, where they charge up to $20,000 per week!

As royals, the couple live a lavish lifestyle, but Mary is also known for her thrifty outfits. The Australian-born Queen often rewears dresses, suits, blouses and more, prompting her to be referred to as a sustainable and economical royal.

But that doesn’t mean that Mary doesn’t also spend extravagantly on occasion – especially on designer clothing pieces.

The Tasmanian-born royal often wears items from luxury labels, including Australian brand Zimmerman, however she does counteract this with some high street pieces from brands such as H&M.

Meghan wants to avoid “an anxiety-fuelled visit to England where she feels like she’s not wanted”.

The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women, both serving and veterans, founded by Prince Harry in 2014. Created “to inspire international communities through the power of the unconquered human spirit”.

The Games are held every few years, with the 2025 event being held in Vancouver and Whistler in Canada next February.

The Duke of Sussex was inspired to begin the Invictus Games after returning home from deployment in Afghanistan and it is a cause very close to his heart, which may be why he is fighting to have his whole family join him in England this May in celebration of its tenth anniversary.

Harry is said to be eager to reunite his children with his family, particularly following the news of both King Charles’ and Catherine, Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnoses.

A source also revealed that “Harry would love for Archie and Lilibet to have a better relationship with their cousins or even the children of some of his friends.”

Prince Harry was most recently in the UK visiting King Charles following the announcement of his father’s shock cancer diagnosis.

Prior to that, the Duke of Sussex hadn’t been back to England since the King’s coronation in May 2023, which he also attended solo without his wife and children.

The Daily Beast has recently reported that Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie are “disappointed” that His Majesty has not yet asked for their help while the British monarchy has a limited number of staff compared to usual.

A palace insider and friend of the sisters told the Daily Beast that the Beatrice and Eugenie are upset they “aren’t being used at all” and want to “be of service”.

“They are very upset to have been ignored by the king as they feel they have a lot to offer, but ultimately not surprised,” the source claimed.

However, another royal expert has revealed that Charles’ decision to not call upon the sisters is deliberate as he is a strong advocate for a slimmed down monarchy.

Michael Cole, a royal commentator, told The Royal Observer that the King has been selective about who he allows to step in during this difficult time for the Crown.

“It is difficult to see major roles for Prince Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. That is not because they are not willing, they are nice people and good ambassadors for this country,” Michael explained.

“He [King Charles] wants to concentrate on the direct line of succession, from him to Prince William and then Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. That is how he wants it. But the King deliberately wants to concentrate on the main line of succession.”

Additionally, another insider has claimed that the King is following in his late mother’s footsteps with the debate over “part-time working royals”, sparked by Prince Harry’s decision to leave the UK while simultaneously maintaining some official roles.

While Charles is “very fond” of his nieces Beatrice and Eugenie, “Everyone, including [the sisters], accepts there is no place for them to be full-time working royals. And as the late Queen Elizabeth made clear, being a part-time working royal isn’t an option,” the source said.

Who is the current Regent of England?

A regent is someone who is appointed to manage a state in place of the monarch if they are unable to perform their duties.

Due to King Charles’ recent cancer diagnosis, His Majesty has taken a backseat in royal duties, especially public-facing duties. However, at this time the King is still the acting monarch.

If for some reason Charles is unable to manage the state in future, his Regent will take over. The current Regent of England is Charles’ son William, Prince of Wales.

This is because the rules of the Regency Act of 1937 state that the regent is the next adult in the line of succession.

What powers does a regent have?

Regents have the power to act on behalf of the monarch, but their specific powers are determined by the country’s constitution.

For the British royal family, the Regent is subject to the same constitutional protocols as the monarch. In essence, this means that Prince William would have the power to do almost everything King Charles could.

The only limitation is that the Regent cannot put forward or approve a bill to change the line of succession to the Crown, or a bill to alter “An Act for Securing the Protestant Religion and Presbyterian Church Government”.

Who would be Regent for George?

If Prince George became King while under the age of 18, Prince Harry would step in a Regent. This is because Prince Harry is the next adult in line for the throne.

The Duke of Sussex would act as Regent for Prince George until he became an adult himself.

Is Harry still in line for the throne?

Prince Harry is still in the line of succession for the British throne, despite stepping down as a working royal in 2020.

While the Duke of Sussex is no longer a working senior royal, he still maintains his royal titles.

The King was joined by his wife Queen Camilla as well as other members of the royal family.

His attendance marks the 75-year-old’s first significant public outing since his cancer diagnosis was announced earlier this year.

Charles is still currently undergoing treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, so the event was smaller than usual as the King follows his doctors’ advice to limit the number of people he comes in contact with.

It was announced by Buckingham Palace that King Charles would be attending the service early last week.

Last year marked His Majesty’s first Easter service as monarch, and as per tradition, he was joined by multiple other senior royals who took part in a short procession to the intimate service.

King Charles led the procession accompanied by his wife and his siblings, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew who made a shock rare public appearance.

This year the Prince and Princess of Wales did not attend the church service as Catherine continues to receive preventative chemotherapy for her recently announced cancer. 

In 2023, the Wales’ attended the event accompanied by their three children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and first-time attendee Prince Louis, 5.

In previous years, fellow senior royals Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, and Zara Tindall have also joined the procession alongside their families.

Following the news of both King Charles’ and Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnoses, the royal family’s Easter Sunday plans were uncertain.

In the midst of his treatment, His Majesty has postponed public-facing duties, however, the Easter church service is technically considered a private family event.

At this stage, Charles is expected to return to work around summer in the United Kingdom, however it is highly dependent on how well he is coping.

A royal source told PEOPLE that the King is “progressing well”, however the Palace is not “committing to anything” and everything will be “subject to doctors’ advice at the time.”

King Charles has continued to work behind the scenes, and the royal source added that “one thing that has been wholly undiminished is his appetite for work.”

Mila Sneddon was just four years old when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2019, and endured more than 900 procedures before going into remission two years ago.

When her mum Lynda, 40, posted a heartbreaking image on Facebook of Mila kissing her dad Scott, 54, through a window during the pandemic lockdown in the UK, it went viral and was included in an exhibition launched by Kate.

The little girl was separated from her dad for months during her treatment after Scott and Lynda took the difficult decision to live in separate households a week before lockdown because he was working and potentially exposed to the virus.

The image was also posted on Kate’s Instagram account, with the royal mum-of-three so touched by the family’s ordeal, that she organised a Zoom call to cheer Mila up, promising that they would one day meet and wear their pink dresses together.

When they did finally meet at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland two years later, the youngster was beaming with delight to find that Kate had indeed worn a matching pink dress, even if she was missing the glittering tiara Mila also wore!

“I love your dress! Can you give it a twirl?” asked Kate, who also later invited Mila, who now calls Kate her “bestie”, to read a prayer at her Together At Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey later that same year.

“You will be brave because I was and you will fight like I did,” Mila, who is now eight, urged the princess last week, with her mum revealing that her daughter also planned to make and send Kate a card.

Lynda says after meeting Kate it was clear that “the incredibly and engaging” princess was a “wife and mother first”, and posted a tribute to Kate on social media after the princess revealed her own cancer battle.

“We are deeply saddened hearing the news about Catherine. A kind, caring soul who has always championed Mila both during and after her treatment. Mila is equally sad to hear this news and
will reach out privately in her own way,” she says.

“Kate showed Mila such compassion, care and support both during and post treatment, so it’s been very emotional to see she is now facing her own health struggles. We have nothing but admiration for her.”

The relationship between the two royals has always been strong, but has reportedly grown even stronger during this difficult period.

Both the King, 75, and the Princess of Wales, 42, were at a London Clinic in January where Charles underwent a prostate procedure and Catherine abdominal surgery. The two of them allegedly met up while they crossed paths at the hospital.

A royal insider spoke with The Times, saying: “When they were in hospital together there was a lot of toddling down the corridor to spend time with her. He has been encouraging and supporting her throughout.

“The King has always had a close, warm and unique relationship with the princess. She has a great love and respect for him and his position.” 

It’s also reported that Charles and Kate Middleton shared a private lunch shortly after the Princess filmed her video message where she announced her cancer diagnosis on 22 March.

At the time of their lunch, both the King and his daughter-in-law had already begun treatment for their respective cancers.

Following the video announcement, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said that His Majesty is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did, confirming that the King has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.”

Royal author Sally Bedell Smith says that Charles “has always had a very good bond with [Kate], and a royal source has pointed out that they also currently share a “common health experience” as well as have always had common interests.

“She’s interested in artistic things and she appreciates art and culture so has an affinity with the King over that.

“Obviously they have this in common and can only bring them closer. It is a source of reassurance and consolation for both of them,” Sally told PEOPLE.

“He has always had a very good bond with her. I don’t think it is presumptuous to say that she is like the daughter he never had. He shares with William an impulse to protect her. They are in this together, Kate and the King.”

A family friend of the British royal family also spoke to Vanity Fair, saying that the King is in “regular daily touch” with both Kate and Prince William.

“To be honest, he and William speak very regularly, but now the king calls daily to check in and make sure Catherine is doing OK,” the source says.

Charles was also “100 percent behind” Kate’s video message announcement, a stray from typical royal statements.

The royal family usually issue written statements, but Catherine wanted to deliver the news herself in a more personal manner. According to sources, Kate discussed this decision with both William and Charles, and received their full support.

“She has always had a close relationship with Charles, but this has brought them so much closer,” a family friend shared.

“Charles adores Kate and has so much respect for her and the courage she has shown in all of this. He was fully behind her recording the message. He has been buoyed by the many messages of support he has received, and he knew that Kate would get the same support from the public.”

Both King Charles and Princess Catherine will continue to undergo treatment, and it has not been announced when they will return to royal duties.

When announcing the news, Sarah spoke about how her three grandchildren inspired her for this major personal trip.

Sarah, Duchess of York has two grandsons and one granddaughter: August (three), Sienna (two) and Ernest (nine months). 

Since becoming a grandmother, Sarah has revealed she’s become “acutely aware of [her] responsibility” to improve the state of the world for future generations.

The Global Citizen NOW event was co-chaired by Sarah, and at the summit she engaged with young leaders who are working to address the climate crisis, as well as end poverty and improve girls’ education.

The Duchess of York announced that she would be attending Global Citizen NOW via an Instagram post, where she uploaded a portrait of herself and wrote: “I am pleased to announce […] I am coming to Melbourne to participate in vital intergenerational conversations with young leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region, who are doing frontline, grassroots work to address the climate crisis, the hunger crisis, girls’ education and issues perpetuating cycles of extreme poverty. 

“I look forward to listening to them, learning from them, and contributing whatever voice I have to speak up for the future of our planet. My parents always highlighted the need to champion the quiet voice of Mother Nature, and now even more so since becoming a grandmother I’ve become acutely aware of my responsibility, and that of my generation, to do everything we can to improve the state of the world we are leaving for our grandchildren.”

The event featured activists, world leaders, business leaders, and artists to bring awareness to these issues.

Special (in-person and virtual) attendees included other big names such as Hugh Jackman, Charlie Puth, Crowded House, Julia Gillard and Osher Günsberg, among others.

The news of Sarah’s Australia trip came merely weeks after she announced that she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, in January 2024 – less than a year after facing breast cancer.

Sarah, mother to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, said her diagnosis was a shock but she was “in the best hands and feeling positive”.

“After undergoing a mastectomy and reconstruction, I could only hope that I was in the clear, which is why a new diagnosis of skin cancer came as a shock,” she said. “I’m now in the best hands and feeling positive with the support of my family.”

The Duchess of Sussex has launched a new lifestyle brand called American Riviera Orchard.

Last week, a new website and Instagram page went live for Meghan Markle’s new project. 

The bio for the American Riviera Orchard Instagram page simply reads, “By Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. Established 2024,” and we haven’t been given many details about the brand as of yet. 

The Instagram account uploaded a story of the Duchess of Sussex picking flowers and cooking in a kitchen, hinting at the type of the project this will be.

The name of the new brand, American Riviera Orchard, seems to be a reference to Meghan and her husband Prince Harry’s current place of residence: Santa Barbara in California.

According to Travel & Leisure, for more than 100 years Santa Barbara has been known as the American Riviera “because of its temperate climate and lush landscapes, as well as its robust food and wine culture.”

The logo for the brand also includes the word Montecito, which is the specific neighbourhood in which the Sussexes live.

A trademark application for the American Riviera Orchard brand reveals that the lifestyle business intends to sell tableware, drinkware, kitchen linens, edible treats such as jellies, jams, marmalade and spreads, and cookbooks.

Her range is already expanding, despite the business not having launched yet, as the Duchess of Sussex has continued to pursue trademarks for more products.

Trademark applications for cosmetic products, home home décor, stationery, linens, kitchen appliances, condiments, yoga equipment, gardening gear and pet accessories.

The brand appears to be similar to Meghan’s previous lifestyle blog, The Tig, which was used from 2014 to 2017.

On The Tig, Meghan shared insights into her favourite foods, travel discoveries and personal reflections. 

“I’ve never been the type of person to do only one thing. I guess that’s how my website was born,” Meghan said in her 2022 documentary Harry & Meghan. 

“There was fashion, there was tons of food, and travel, so it was all of the things that I loved. And The Tig wasn’t just a hobby. It became a really successful business.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no strangers to starting new businesses as they have embarked on numerous ventures over the past few years.

Meghan has launched a podcast named Archetypes as well as invested in an oat milk coffee company, while Prince Harry released his memoir, Spare, in 2023.

The couple have also made a multi-year deal with Netflix, releasing a docuseries about themselves in 2022 and they will reportedly be producing a number of projects for the streaming giant too.

Additionally, the pair have continually worked on their nonprofit organisation, the Archewell Foundation, for many years.

The launch of the American Riviera Orchard Instagram page marks the first time either of the Sussexes have used social media since 2020 when the pair made their last update to their @SussexRoyal Instagram page after stepping back as working members of the royal family.

Meghan shut down all of her personal social media profiles and The Tig blog after getting engaged to Prince Harry in 2018.

The news comes after months of rumours swirled about the 42-year-old’s disappearance from public life following her abdominal surgery in January.

Catherine’s Full Statement:

“I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery,” Kate Middleton’s video began.

“It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful.

“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time.

“It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.

“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.

“Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.

“We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment.

“My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.

“At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone,” the Princess of Wales concluded.

According to a friend of Kate’s who spoke with The Sunday Times, the mother-of-three wrote “every word” of her emotional speech.

“It allowed her to speak directly to the public who, overwhelmingly, have always been with her and her family and who don’t buy into the noise and gossip.

“It was all her, she wrote every word of it, it came together very quickly,” the source said.

Following the announcement, a spokesperson from Buckingham Palace has confirmed King Charles III is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did.”

Charles is also currently undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, and he and his wife Queen Camilla “will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time”.

The King has “remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks,” the spokesperson added.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have also shared a public statement of support for Catherine.

The Princess of Wales’ brother-in-law Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle “wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

Catherine and her husband Prince William have released their first joint statement since her cancer announcement, with the Wales couple saying they have been “enormously touched” by the love and support they have received since the news was shared.

While we’re accustomed to regular, albeit fleeting glimpses of Prince William and Princess Catherine’s three children, Harry and Meghan’s son Archie would henceforth be protected from the constant gaze of a camera lens.

Throughout 2020, we got all but two glimpses of the little royal – the first on his birthday in May when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a cute video from story time, and the second in the Christmas card in the following December.

In 2021 we saw a few more rare snaps, including some home footage that was shared during Harry and Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

And again at the end of 2022, we’ve seen more of Archie and his sister Lilibet with the rare pictures in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan.

In the first volume of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell Netflix documentary, released on December 8, 2022, royal watchers were shown the little family celebrating Archie’s first birthday.

Archie was born in the United Kingdom May 6, 2019. But his birthday isn’t the only important milestone celebrated on May 6, as his grandfather, King Charles was officially appointed the new monarch during his coronation ceremony.

However, the young royal did not attend the coronation and instead stayed in his Montecito home with Meghan and sister, Princess Lilibet while his father attended the coronation.

On the day of Archie’s fourth birthday, the royal family did not address his birthday celebration. However, photographer Misan Harriman – the longtime friend of Meghan – took to social media to wish him a happy birthday.

“Wishing you the happiest of birthdays Archie,” they wrote on Twitter alongside a picture of baby Archie grabbing at a picture of Princess Diana.

Archie has spent a majority of his life in the United States and in the “intimate” documentary, he was seen holding an America flag while being cradled in his mother’s arms.

Sadly, Archie’s “mixed race” parents was a highly talked about conversation. In the documentary, the father-of-two said: “My son, my daughter, my children are mixed race and I’m really proud of that.”

“When my kids grow up and they back look at this moment and they turn to me, they say, ‘what did you do in this moment?’ I want to be able to give them an answer.”

While the world debates who Archie is starting to look like, a leaked image shared to Twitter in December 2022, proved Archie is the spitting image of his father. Archie, sitting on his mother’s lap – which seems to be his favourite spot – was also joined by grandmother, Doria Ragland.

The three were seated for a web call with a number of women who specialised in social impact, feminism and political strategy according to The Sun.

A black and white image featuring Meghan reading to Archie, with their family dog sound asleep in the back, showed off Archie’s beautiful curls even more.

Although we didn’t get to see any images of Archie, Meghan’s 2022 profile with The Cut provided more insight into how her eldest son is growing up and how his ginger curls were identical to that of his father’s.

When asked why there were few images of Archie, Meghan confessed: “Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child?”

In the same year, Meghan revealed Archie loved the kids television series, Octonauts.

”Lilli is only one so she doesn’t watch TV but Archie, he’s loved Octonauts for a really long time,” she told Variety.

”It’s amazing because he’s getting into more throwback shows like The Magic School Bus, who would’ve though. He thinks it’s great, so that’s been pretty fun to see it again through his eyes.”

To mark Christmas 2021, Harry and Meghan delighted fans by sharing their family Christmas card that featured the first official picture of baby Lilibet, who was born in June that year.

Little Lili may have stolen the show in the snap, but Archie, dressed in jeans and a smart white shirt, was the spitting image of his red-headed dad.

Just a few months later his parents revealed they almost gave Archie a much more traditional royal name, “Harrison”, but settled on Archie and used Harrison for a middle name instead.

“Harry and Meghan couldn’t decide between Archie and Harrison for the first name,” a mother who spoke with Meghan at the 2022 Invictus Games told PA.

During her TV interview with Ellen DeGeneres in 2021, Meghan shared a new photo of her and Harry’s son, which featured the youngster in their Montecito backyard.

Dressed in jeans, gumboots, a long sleeved shirt and basket in hand, the little red-head appeared to be feeding the family’s chickens.

Meghan also revealed that Archie wasn’t a fan of Halloween, telling Ellen: “Archie was a dinosaur for maybe five minutes.”

We hope after all this time, Archie has grown more accustomed to Halloween.

Archie also made a cameo during Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, when the pair opened up on a wide-ranging of heartbreaking topics like the palaces’ troubling concerns over Archie’s skin colour, Duchess Meghan’s mental health battle and Prince Harry and older brother Prince William’s fraught relationship.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan shared a snippet of never-before-seen footage of their son running on the beach.

In the home video, a delighted Archie dashes between his mother and father as he explores the shoreline with a stick in hand – a touching moment of unbridled joy for the family-of-three. Archie looks adorable in the footage, dressed in a buttoned-up cardigan, long trousers and a pair of trainers.

“This year has been crazy for everybody. But to have outdoor space where I can go for walks with Archie and we can go for walks as a family and with the dogs or have a hike or go down to the beach, which is so close,” Harry reflected of the grounding impact his son has on him and their low-key lifestyle in Santa Barbara.

“The highlight for me is sticking him on the back of the bicycle in his little baby seat and taking him on these bike rides, which is something I was never able to do when I was young. I can see him on the back and he’s got his arms out and he’s going ‘Woooo!’ Chatting, chatting, chatting, and he’s going, Palm tree! house!” and all this stuff,” he added of the sweet way he bonds with his son.

Oprah also asked the couple what their chatterbox son’s favourite word to say was, to which Meghan replied: “Oh my gosh, he’s on a roll. In the past couple weeks, it’s been ‘hydrate,’ which is just hysterical.”

“But also, any time anyone leaves the house, he’s like ‘Drive safe!'” Harry pointed out.

“‘Drive safe!’ He’s not even two yet,” Meghan laughed.

Harry previously revealed to James Corden his son’s first word was ‘crocodile’ so we’re not surprised he’s already talking about road safety!

Then, in May 2021, Prince Harry released his new docuseries The Me You Can’t See alongside Oprah Winfrey.

In one searing episode where Harry details his mental health struggles over the years, a beautiful clip of Archie playing in a backyard tree swing is over-layed. Immediately, fans were enthralled by his uncanny similarity to his mum.

With big doe eyes and round cheeks, Archie’s features are just like his mum’s when she was also a baby. There’s also no mistaking his similarities to Meghan now – we all know those eyes from a mile away!

Royal watchers were also given another close-up glimpse of Archie in March 2021 when Duchess Meghan’s long-time close friend Silver Tree, who is a director, shared a gorgeous series of images along with a stirring caption as she defended Meghan in the lead up to the Oprah interview.

In the candid, personal images from Silver Tree, one included little Archie – fans immediately flocked to the picture in awe of how much he’s grown.

He also looks like the perfect mix of his parents – with Harry’s dark red hair, and Meghan’s unmistakable eyes.

However, the Palace has merely confirmed Kate was “doing well,” and has not elaborated any further. But that hasn’t stopped royal watchers from asking countless questions. 

In mid-March Kate Middleton was photographed for just the third time since returning home, and was spotted at a farm store in Windsor. According to onlookers, the Princess of Wales appeared “happy, relaxed and healthy” while walking beside her husband Prince William.

Now an investigation has been launched at the London Clinic where Kate underwent surgery, after it was claimed that at least one member of staff had tried to access the Princess of Wales’ private medical records despite her wish that her “personal medical information remains private.

Rumours of Kate’s health spiralled weeks after Kate returned home to Windsor in late January, just 13 days after a planned surgery. 

“The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress,” the statement read.

“The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided.

“The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world,” it concluded.

The news of Kate’s surgery was first announced on January 18 with Kensington Palace revealing she was admitted to The London Clinic the day prior for a “planned abdominal surgery.”

“The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” the initial statement read.

As a result of the surgery, the Princess postponed all her upcoming engagements and “wishes to apologise” to those concerned. At the time, Prince William postponed many engagements to support their children George, Charlotte and Louis. 

“William is incredibly supportive as a husband. It’s pretty unusual for the Prince of Wales to cancel engagements because his wife isn’t well – that certainly wouldn’t have happened in the past – but he’s a modern man whose family is more important to him than anything else,” The Editor in Chief of Majesty said. 

Kate’s first official royal engagement following her surgery has been announced, with the Princess of Wales set to review Trooping the Colour on 8 June. Trooping the Colour is one of the largest occasions of the calendar year for the royals as the event marks the monarch’s official birthday.

However, the British Ministry of Defence (MoD), who originally published the news, has since removed the information from the website and it’s reported that the MoD did not seek approval from Kensington Palace before publishing.

The Diana Legacy Awards were created by the charity named in her honour, and celebrate Diana’s enduring legacy as well as inspire a new generation of young people to service their communities.

At the awards ceremony on Thursday evening, Prince William delivered a heartfelt speech commemorating the charity’s 25th anniversary, as well as praised his mother and the 20 award recipients.

In his speech, William said: “This evening’s Legacy Award is particularly special as it marks the 25th Anniversary year of The Diana Award – a charity set up to reflect my mother’s belief that young people can change the world.

“I know that she would have been honoured to see a charity in her name doing such inspirational work to uplift young people from all corners of the globe. She taught me that everyone has the potential to give something back, that everyone in need deserves a supporting hand in life.  

“That legacy is something that both Catherine and I have sought to focus on through our work, as have the 50,000 young people who have received a Diana Award over the past 25 years.  I am incredibly proud to see this manifested in the amazing young people receiving the Legacy Award tonight.”

Prince Harry met with the award winners virtually after the event, and shared his own short speech about the charity and its mission.

Appearing via video call, the Duke of Sussex told the recipients, “My mum would be incredibly proud of all of the work that you’ve done, I’m incredibly proud and thank you for doing everything that you do.”

“I’m sorry I can’t be there. I wish I could be there with you guys,” he added.

Harry also thanked the group for “protecting” his late mother’s legacy and shared that he was “seriously impressed” with all of their work. 

“The future’s yours and you’re helping to shape that future,” he said.

Princes William and Harry did not interact at the event as their contributions to the ceremony were held at differing times.

William and Harry have both continued to celebrate the Diana Award despite their strained relationship and in July last year, they appeared in separate videos for the annual Diana Award.

The brothers presented the inaugural Diana Legacy Awards together at St James’ Palace in 2017, back when their relationship was on better terms.

And it worked for a short time – until photo agencies around the world discovered that the picture, taken by Prince William at their home in Windsor and released by the palace, had been doctored. Since then, the family photo has only thrown more fuel on the fire surrounding Kate’s mysterious two-and-a-half-month absence from public life.

In addition to being one of the biggest royal PR gaffes in recent history, the photo scandal has also turned the spotlight undesirably onto speculation of possible trouble in Kate and William’s marriage, spurred on by her iconic sapphire and diamond engagement and wedding rings missing from the new snap.

‘BACKFIRED SPECTACULARLY’

“A picture that was supposed to send out a positive message about Kate’s health has backfired spectacularly,” royal author Phil Dampier tells Woman’s Day. “The internet was already awash with rumours about Catherine, now the rumour mill has been given rocket boosters with people saying the ‘fake photo’ shows the royals can’t be trusted to tell the truth.”

The recovering princess, 42, took the fall for the major photo error amid criticism that William, 41, should have stepped in rather than his ill wife. The mother of three said, “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.”

Royal commentator Richard Eden has slammed the future king and the PR team – who presumably issued the release of the image – for throwing Kate “under the bus”.

“It’s disgraceful. It’s very ungentlemanly of Prince William to put the onus on [Kate]… for goodness sake, he’s the one who took the photograph.”

Understandably, the princess’ wellbeing is under scrutiny even more now.

“She must be under intense pressure now,” says royal expert Penny Junor. “I think she’s in a fragile mental and physical state.”

A friend of Kate’s told the Mirror the princess would be “upset” by what was intended to be an “innocent family photograph” and the chance to thank her well-wishers for their kindness during
her recovery. But even with Kate’s genuine apology, it’s fair to say that trust in the royal family is now at its lowest point in a while.

Indeed, when William and Kate were spotted leaving Windsor in their car after the apology, the sceptics were already out in force, implying the photo was fake due to the mismatched bricks on one section of the wall behind them.

CAN THE PALACE BE TRUSTED?

Now for many, the idea that Kate’s largely unexplained disappearance from royal life could really be covering up cracks in her 13-year marriage to William is not that far-fetched.

Though a split would be “catastrophic” for the future of the monarchy, seasoned royal reporter Phil believes it’s a case of “never say never”.

“For more than five years in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when I was the royal reporter on The Sun – the UK’s biggest-selling tabloid – the palace lied to me on a daily basis that there was nothing wrong with the marriage of Charles and Diana,” he points out. “Since those days, I’ve taken everything the royal spokespeople tell me with a pinch of salt.”

Following reports that the couple are on the hunt for a British PR firm to help boost their poor image in Harry’s homeland, sources say “they may not have a choice”.

FORCED TO FLEE THE US

Last week, a US judge ordered the Department of Homeland Security to release details of Harry’s visa application by March 21, a situation that could cause embarrassment to both the current and former presidents.

“It’s a political bombshell that could drag down both [Joe] Biden and [Donald] Trump over claims they gave Harry preferential treatment, particularly in light of his drug admissions from his book,” says an insider.

“Trump’s made it clear what he thinks of Harry and Meghan, but things have been estranged with Joe and Jill [Biden] since they allegedly tried to hitch a ride home on Air Force One after the Queen’s funeral.

“It’s also getting mighty expensive in California. Harry and Meghan are desperate, and it’s pretty clear the royal family are desperate too. It makes sense for them to reopen the UK as an option for them. Harry is keen to return to London as a working royal again, especially knowing how much they need him right now.”

While relations between Harry, 39, and his brother, “acting” monarch Prince William, are at rock bottom, sources say King Charles’ diagnosis has made Harry even more determined to mend bridges.

Meghan and Harry have been front and centre lately, with the duchess commanding the stage as a keynote speaker at the SXSW event in Texas.

The couple also took the time to visit the family of teacher Irma Garcia, who was killed in the 2022 Uvalde shooting.

“What do you think all these appearances are for?” adds the insider. “They’re effectively staging their own royal tour, showing what they can do – meeting victims, shaking hands, offering shoulders and hugs.

“They’re bringing their A-game, without any doctored photos of their children necessary, but more than that, Harry wants William to know he can be useful to him.”

As for Charles, 75, who is keeping Harry updated with his progress, friends say the prince is convinced the King wants him back.

A palace source says, “Of course the King wants Harry and Meghan back, but it’s William they have to convince. It would ease Charles’ mind to have both his sons nearby and on duty on his behalf. He and Queen Camilla are struggling and want to lead a more balanced life.”

After marrying Prince Harry in 2018 and becoming an official member of the British royal family, such freedoms including a personal Instagram account were limited. But four years are departing the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex has made a grand return. 

Her new Instagram handle – quietly launched on March 15, AEST, is the name of her new lifestyle brand, American Rivera Orchard, “established” in 2024.

Adding further to the mystery was a cryptic video shared to its Stories. In the clip, Meghan can be seen arranging a bouquet of white roses and cooking in presumably her home kitchen in Montecito. Setting the scene was the song “I Wish You Love” by Nancy Wilson.

Royal watchers have eagerly been waiting for Meghan’s return to social media since way back in August 2022 where she teased the details in an interview.

“Do you want to know a secret?” she asked during her interview with The Cut at the time. “I’m getting back… on Instagram.”

Prior to her marriage to the Duke of Sussex, Meghan enjoyed sharing moments from her daily life, including yoga, food, hikes, friends and her dog.

She also had to stop posting on her person blog, The Tig, that was an archive of The Duchess’ resolutions, travel tips, restaurant reviews, hotels and where to shop.

While Meghan loved sharing a glimpse into her personal life, she loved Harry more.

“It was a big adjustment – a huge adjustment to go from that kind of autonomy to a different life,” she told the publication.

Meghan was given permission to join Harry, Kate Middleton and Prince William on a pre-existing Instagram account, @KensingtonRoyal in which she had no control over.

“There’s literally a structure by which if you want to release photos of your child, as a member of the family, you first have to give them to the Royal Rota,” she said.

However, Meghan later confessed in the interview that she was no longer sure of her return to Instagram.

The couple created their own Instagram account, @sussexroyal in April 2019 and reached one million followers within six hours. However, they have not posted since March 2020 after announcing their departure as senior members of the royal family in January 2020 and therefore could no longer use the royal title.

Thomas Kingston, husband of Lady Gabriella Kingston (née Windsor), has passed away at the age of 45.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the news on 28 February, with King Charles and Queen Camilla sending their best wishes to the family.

A private family funeral for Thomas was held on 12 March at the Chapel Royal at St James’ in London. Members of the royal family attended in support of Lady Gabriella, including Prince William.

A statement was released on behalf of Thomas’ wife and parents which read: “It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother. Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. 

“His death has come as a great shock to the whole family and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.”

Thomas was found deceased at an address in Gloucestershire on Sunday evening, and his cause of death has now been established as due to a ‘traumatic head wound’.

According to Katy Skerrett, senior coroner for Gloucestershire, Thomas’ father “found Mr Kingston deceased with a catastrophic head injury. A gun was present at the scene. Emergency services were called. Police are satisfied the death is not suspicious.”

After hearing the news of Thomas’ passing, a spokesperson from the Palace shared a statement saying: “The King and The Queen have been informed of Thomas’s death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in grieving a much-loved member of the family. 

“In particular, Their Majesties send their most heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Gabriella and to all the Kingston family.”

Thomas and Gabriella attended a Shakespeare event in London together with the Queen earlier this month.

Thomas was previously in a relationship with Pippa Middleton before he met Gabriella in 2015.

After dating for a few years the couple’s engagement was announced by Buckingham Palace in September 2018.

Lady Gabriella (42) married Thomas on 18 May 2019 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The couple had no children together and were set to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary this May.

Gabriella’s parents, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, were among many royals to attend a memorial for the late King Constantine of the Hellenes, just days after Thomas’ passing.

Lady Gabriella, a godchild of the late Constantine, and her brother, Lord Frederick Windsor, were absent from the memorial.

Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and Duchess Sophie will be holding down the royal fort.

While King Charles undergoes treatment for cancer, he will be unable to proceed with public duties. In the meantime, his ‘counsellors of state’ will be appointed to stand in.

According to the royal family’s website, “in the event that The King cannot undertake his official duties as Sovereign on a temporary basis due to illness or absence abroad, two or more Counsellors of State are appointed by Letters Patent to act in His Majesty’s place.”

His Majesty’s current counsellors of state include Queen Camilla, Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Andrew and Princess Beatrice.

However, as Harry, Duke of Sussex and Andrew, Duke of York are currently not working royals, other senior royals will also be partaking in even more royal duties than usual.

It’s unsurprising that Princess Anne is expected to be one of the senior royals stepping up at the moment, as she has been dubbed the hardest working royal for multiple years in a row.

Every year, the hardest working royal is decided based on the amount of royal engagements members of the royal family attend. According to The Telegraph, the Princess Royal attended more royal engagements than any other royal in 2023, conducting 457 total.

Since the announcement of King Charles’ ill health, Princess Anne has unsurprisingly partaken in more engagements.

Queen Camilla has also stepped up in terms of royal engagements, attending numerous events solo as His Majesty has postponed public-facing duties, as per advice from his doctors.

Since the announcement of the King’s health concerns, the Queen has hosted authors and illustrators of the new Modern-Day Miniature Library, opened a cancer support centre at the Royal Free Hospital, celebrated the 850th anniversary of St John’s Foundation in Bath, visited the new Meadows Community centre in Cambridge, among many other engagements.

Additionally, Prince Edward has also stepped up in terms of the amount of royal engagements he is attending.

The Duke of Edinburgh did take a short break from royal duties between 23 January and 20 February 2024, following trips to South Africa and St Helena, but he has since returned in full force, attending almost as many engagements as his sister Princess Anne.

Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, continued to attend engagements solo while Edward took a short break, including visiting the volunteer team at The Lighthouse in Woking.

Since then, the royal couple have continued attending many events together again.

Since the news of his father, King Charles III’s cancer diagnosis, royal experts have weighed in on the likelihood of the Duke of Sussex once again acting as a working royal.

The Times recently reported that the King supported a reconciliation with his son, and that an “arrangement” featuring Prince Harry returning as a working royal “could work”.

A royal source told the publication: “On all practical levels it makes perfect sense for the family to come together to support the King while he’s sick.”

“Much has been said on both sides in recent years, but that has never diminished the fundamental bond of blood, and there are now pragmatic aspects to consider, with the King and Kate’s wellbeing ­paramount in this,” continued the source.

Harry is currently listed as a counsellor of state to the King, meaning that King Charles could delegate official duties to him, to act in His Majesty’s place.

However, a source told the Daily Mail: “Aside from a small number of investitures, the King does not plan to offload a great number of duties on other family members while he undergoes treatment.”

Additionally, during an interview with Good Morning America on 16 February, the Duke hinted at his priorities lying with his own immediate family, who are based in California.

In response to being asked about how he is processing his father’s health, Prince Harry said: “I have my own family as we all do. My family and my life in California is as it is.” He then added that whilst he will return to the UK, it will only be briefly. “I have got other trips planned that would take me through the UK or back to the UK, so I will stop in and see my family as much as I can.”

However, according to King Charles’ former butler Grant Harrold, one royal could stand in Prince Harry’s way when it comes to potentially returning to the royal fold – his brother.

“[Harry] could have a discussion with his brother about resuming his royal duties, but obviously there is so much that has happened over the last couple of years and that needs to be sorted out before the Sussexes made a permanent return,” Grant Harrold told The New York Post.

“I don’t think it would be impossible. When I was working for the royal family, I saw how close William and Harry were, I don’t think that’s a relationship that is too far gone to be healed or fixed.”

Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship has reportedly been strained since Harry’s decision to step down as a senior royal in 2020, with some sources claiming the feud started even before then.

Although he believes it would take work and time to rebuild “trust”, Grant believes that Harry’s relationship with Prince William and other royal family members could be healed.

The Duke of Sussex returned to the UK following King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, however he only partook in a 45-minute meeting with his father, and flew back to the United States 24 hours later.

When asked how he first heard of the news of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis on Good Morning America, Harry said: “I spoke to him. I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could. Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”

Neither Buckingham Palace nor the Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex commented on the meeting at the time, but one source told HELLO! that the King would have been “enormously touched” that Harry made the effort to see him.

According to The Times, Harry and Charles are also said to have shared “warm ­exchanges” after the King revealed his health news in early February.

Robert Hardman, author of Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, also spoke with HELLO! addressing the brevity of the reunion, saying: “The King is not in a position to suddenly throw the diary up in the air and rearrange everything. He doesn’t want that anyway. He’s trying to maintain as normal a schedule as possible. But it’s lovely for Harry to have come over.”

While the King is taking a break from royal duties, Prince William, Princess Anne, Queen Camilla and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh are stepping up in terms of engagements.

However, there were concerns that the image had been digitally altered, and Kensington Palace released an official statement in response.

“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” the message said.

“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”

The photo was taken by Prince William a few days ago at their home in Windsor, and marked the first official photograph of the Princess of Wales since her abdominal surgery in January.

Accompanying the photo was a message from Kate thanking the public for their continued support and she also extended her well wishes to other families on Mother’s Day.

“Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day,” Kate wrote in the caption, signing off with a ‘C’ at the end.

This is also the first time that a family photo taken by Prince William has been released, as typically Kate is the one behind the camera.

The Mother’s Day tribute comes just days after Kate Middleton was photographed for the first time since her surgery.

The Princess was spotted in a car with her mother near her home in Windsor – her first public sighting since Christmas Day last year.

For Mother’s Day in 2023, the Wales family also released photographs of Princess Catherine with her three children.

Kensington Palace shared two portraits – one of Kate with George, Charlotte and Louis sitting in a tree, and another of Catherine cradling her youngest, Louis. 

In 2021, there was also a photo shared in honour of Mother’s Day of a cake the royal children had made for their mother, as well as photos of cards the children had written to their late grandmother, Princess Diana, who they affectionately call Granny Diana.

The Wales’ weren’t the only royals to share Mother’s Day tributes this year, as King Charles and Queen Camilla also shared a photograph of a young Charles with his mum, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

“Wishing all Mothers, and those who are missing their Mums today, a peaceful Mothering Sunday,” the King and Queen wrote on Instagram.
