The post Martha Kalifatidis has one very simple postpartum skincare hack appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
As Martha Kalifatidis blows out the candles at her son Lucius’ first birthday, it’s only natural she’ll reflect on those very early postpartum days.

Days where Looch, as she affectionately calls him, would sleep all day long and leave his mum with all the time in the world to continue with her beauty routine.

“I had a lot of time to blow dry my hair and do my skincare. But now that he’s entering toddler stage – I call it terror stage,” she laughs, “there’s no time for that.”

Having just turned one, Lucius is well into his toddler stage, needing “so much attention” and “constant stimulation” from everyone around him. “We’re a lot more hands-on these days,” Martha tells Now To Love.

Image: Instagram

Finding time for self-care, let alone skincare, is not a luxury the 35-year-old mum finds herself with, even with the support of her friends, family and her fiance Michael Brunelli.

“You’ve got five minutes and in those five minutes, you probably have a lot of other things that you want to do,” she says. “Maybe drink a hot coffee, have a hot piece of toast… but with skincare, you have to just slap it on and be done.”

For this reason, Martha has partnered with Olay to help find the perfect postpartum skincare routine, with enough room for her holy grails and nothing else.

“I love the sculpting cream because it’s like a 15-step skincare in one. It does for your skin what an essence, serum, moisturiser and oil would do in one step,” she shares.

But, with anything, everyone’s experience may look a little different. “Some days you might get to do a 10-step skincare routine, and some days you might not even brush your teeth and that’s okay,” she says.

Image: Instagram

However, Martha’s best tip for mums struggling with skincare is to find what they like – and more importantly, what’s good – and just stick with it.

“Gone are the days where you’re like, ‘I’ll try this, I’ll see how this goes’. You just need something reliable. You need something that’s not going to irritate your skin.”

“Also, your hormones are not the same,” she laughs. “So you might be more sensitive than you usually are… I like to use a barrier cream, a really thick one. Always a sunscreen, always a retinol and a really gentle cleanser. They were the hero products that I always used.”

With that, we’ve built a skincare routine that we think would be perfect for mums entering their postpartum stage.

We are all striving to achieve those shiny, healthy luscious locks we’ve always dreamed of.

Whether you’re a long-length, layered, ‘Rachel’ cut type of woman, or perhaps you want that effortlessly chic pixie look like Audrey Hepburn or Scarlett Johansson, having healthy hair is a beauty goal to strive for.

Particularly as we age it is only natural for hair to thin, however, there are things we can add to our daily beauty routine to nip this in the bud or try to add some desired volume back to our locks.

Hair-growth vitamins may just be the key to achieving the hair of your dreams, and help to improve your overall hair health.

Now let’s be clear, there isn’t a magic pill you can take to instantly grow your hair, however implementing vitamins into your diet can help to improve the strength, add some shine back into dull strands and even improve thickness.

If you are looking to improve your hair health this year, scroll on to find the top vitamins and supplements to consider adding to your morning routine for healthy, shiny locks.

Ensure to read the label of any supplements you are taking and consult with your doctor first.

The best skincare for women over 50, according to an expert https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/best-skin-care-products-for-over-50-australia/ Tue, 02 Apr 2024 03:30:10 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=508858 As our skin changes, so should our skincare.

The post The best skincare for women over 50, according to an expert appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
As we begin to age, it’s only natural that our skin changes along with us. Women entering their 50s and above in particular face major changes, especially during perimenopause.

While you might think menopause is the time you need to worry, it turns out it’s the period before menopause even begins that you need to reconsider your approach to skincare.

“This is when we experience those dreaded hot flashes, unwelcome breakouts and even possibly rosacea,” skincare expert April Brodie tells Now To Love. “When the time comes along marking the end of our menstrual cycle, this naturally means a rapid decline in hormones.”

“A decrease in our estrogen and progesterone means these hormones are no longer feeding into our skin, and we can see our skin become a lot more dry, thinner and less bouncy which comes hand in hand with a drop in our collagen levels,” she explains.

So, while we’ve grown used to a certain skin type or skincare needs our entire life, we’re now presented with dryer, flatter skin, meaning our routine needs to adapt too.

“Incorporating products containing exfoliating acids into your skincare routine can help rejuvenate mature skin, improve its overall appearance, and enhance the effectiveness of other anti-aging ingredients,” Brodie says.

However, when trying new products it’s essential to start slowly and patch test first, especially if you have sensitive skin or have never used exfoliating acids before.

“Over time, you can gradually increase the frequency of use to achieve optimal results while minimising the risk of irritation,” she adds.

The post 5 beauty hacks that will save your routine, and your wallet appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
As any beauty lover knows, nothing can make or break your routine quite like your approach. Are you looking for products that are going to shave minutes off your clock? Or are you looking to invest in new gadgets and tools to enhance your overall look?

More often than not, those two tend to come hand in hand. Investing in the right tools can not only save you so much time in the application process, but they also promise a great deal of savings when choosing products that can do two – or even three – things in one.

This is exactly why we’ve gone and found some of the best beauty “hacks” across makeup, skincare and even nails, to make your routine feel as effortless as your final look.

The hype is real: the cult skincare range that’s just launched in Australia https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/cult-skincare-range-just-launched-in-australia/ Thu, 29 Feb 2024 04:25:52 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=506338 Your skin, renewed in a flash.

The post The hype is real: the cult skincare range that’s just launched in Australia appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
It’s here! The cult skincare brand No7 has now launched its ground-breaking Future Renew range in Australia. These products are unlike anything previously seen on the beauty market, with its innovative hero ingredient Pepticology™ set to revolutionise skincare.

The range includes the Future Renew Repair Serum, the Repair Eye Cream and the Repair Night Cream — they all target the visible signs of ageing, helping skin to look and feel refreshed, revitalised and, yes, visibly renewed. And you can now get it exclusively at Priceline.

Believe the hype!

The No7 skincare brand has long been a cult classic, but their latest line has even gone one step further. The Future Renew range has been 15 years in the making, and has already become a global sensation as soon as it hit the market. At the recent Future Renew launch, leading international retailers reported that one product sold every two seconds! These products are literally flying off the shelves.

So what’s all the excitement about? With 37 innovative studies backing this skincare revolution, the Future Renew range recorded age-defying results. Clinical trials on the No7 Future Renew Serum showed 97 per cent of women had clinical grade improvements in the appearance of multiple visible signs of skin damage.

World-first skincare innovation

Peptides have been on the beauty radar for a while, but No7 goes one step further with the cutting-edge, No7-owned, super-peptide blend, Pepticology™. Ground-breaking research undertaken by No7, in partnership with world-leading scientists at the University of Manchester in the UK, has resulted in the combination of two of the most powerful peptides into a super-peptide blend, Pepticology™. This new discovery helps to support the skin’s natural self-repair process and visibly repair multiple signs of skin damage.

In fact, this new wave of innovation represents the biggest cosmetic science breakthrough in No7’s history. Pepticology™ is considered so ground-breaking that it was presented at three world-leading scientific conferences across three continents in 2023, including the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Annual Conference, the British Society for Investigative Dermatology (BSID) Annual Meeting and the International Societies for Investigative Dermatology (ISID).

Don’t Regret, Just Visibly Reverse

The range’s formula is a potent mix of Pepticology™ as well as other hero active ingredients, such as Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Vitamin C and antioxidants to further combat skin damage. Future Renew has undergone rigorous testing, with 37 studies on more than 4200 people, including two clinical trials on more than 70 people. There have also been 23 user trials on more than 3800 people and the results speak for themselves.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive – with the serum showing to repair the visible signs of skin damage in just four weeks and with 75% of women reporting their skin felt less damaged after using the product. With results this compelling, it’s time to invest in your skin’s future and reverse the visible signs of ageing with Future Renew.

When it comes to the world of beauty there are a number of products that have achieved cult status.

Whether it be Yves Saint Laurent’s Touch Éclat concealer or NARS’ blush in the colour way ‘Orgasm’ these coveted items have garnered a reputable name for themselves, and for good reason.

Their high standing, more often than not, comes with an equally high price tag.

While we’re all for the occasional (or weekly) splurge, filling our entire beauty bags with these luxury items can lead to a hefty bill that’s hard to justify.

Thankfully, in an industry overflowing with products, there are a number of very impressive dupes that not only match cult favourites but shine in their own right.

We’re rounding up some of the best, below.

The best cult beauty dupes in Australia

01

XtendLash Mascara

$28 at MCoBeauty

Not only has MCoBeauty’s XTendLash Mascara been dubbed the perfect dupe for Kevyn Aucoin’s Tubular Mascara, but it’s also a fave of celebs like Jules Sebastian and Celeste Barber.

Also available at:

02

Revolution Pro Cream Face Wand

$22.40 at Revolution Beauty

Said to be “as good as the Charlotte Tilbury, but a quarter the price” by rave reviewers, this trio of wands work to contour, blush and glow – everything you need to elevate your look.

03

NYX Lip Lingerie

$11.70 (usually $19.99) at Oz Hair & Beauty

No one knows how to nail the perfect pout quite like Kylie Jenner, but the creators at NYX certainly give the makeup mogul a run for her money with their offerings.

Also available at:

04

NYX Professional Makeup Make Up Setting Spray

$16.99 at Adore Beauty

NYX’s setting spray went viral for its stay-power thanks to a review by a woman who claims the spray lasted through a car accident and hospital stay. If that doesn’t rival the likes of Urban Decay Setting Spray, we don’t know what will.

Also available at:

05

Revolution Bright Light Face Glow

$14 at Revolution Beauty

This illuminating skin tint from Revolution Beauty is near identical to Charlotte Tilbury’s glowy Flawless Filter foundation but for a fraction of the price.

07

Designer Brands Make ‘Em Blush Pressed Mineral Blush

$14.99 at Adore Beauty

This perfectly pinky peach shade has been so popular that NARS has developed a whole range in the colourway, which is a delight for fans, but not nearly as delightful as discovering Designer Brands’ blush is nearly identical in colour.

Embrace and enhance your mature skin with these hard-working foundations https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/best-foundation-mature-skin-71187/ Wed, 28 Feb 2024 03:38:24 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/makeup/best-foundation-mature-skin-71187 It's the most important part of your makeup routine.

Foundation is typically the base of your makeup routine, and it’s also the most important step.

It’s integral that the product is applied evenly, matches your skin tone, and blends into your face instead of sitting on top.

Unfortunately, it can be harder to successfully follow those three rules as skin matures because the foundation sometimes seeps into fine lines.

Luckily, makeup is advanced these days, and brands work closely with their team to create formulas that support the needs of mature skin.

Of course, to do so, you need to invest in a great foundation, so we’ve found some of the best on the market below.

2024’s top three foundations for mature skin in Australia

 1. Skin Silk Serum Foundation, $24, Revolution Beauty
 2. Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Foundation, $70, Charlotte Tilbury
 3. Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stic, $49, Hourglass

 • Medium, sheer coverage
 • Suitable for all skin types

05

Clarins Everlasting Youth Fluid Foundation

$72 at Adore Beauty

Clarins’ foundation offers similar finishes to most mature skin foundations. However, it’s special because it includes natural botanical extracts that help defend your skin from the environment.

Key features:

 • Ideal for more mature, tired-looking skin
 • Smoothing, hydrating formulation helps improve the appearance of fine lines
 • Light to medium coverage with optical filters to improve age spots and imperfections

How to apply foundation on mature skin

Here are some tips to make sure you’re getting the most out of your foundation by prepping your base:

 • The first call to action is, of course, skincare prep, which is achievable through applying a hydrating moisturiser that isn’t too thick, and if you feel brave, face oil will give you an extra glow.
 • Next, your favourite primer is your best friend because it will help blur fine lines and encourage a smooth, even surface.
 • Finally, you can begin applying your foundation, but it’s best to start with thin coverage and build up as you get a feel for how it’s sitting on your face.

Your product of choice should be hydrating and brightening for a high-quality finish, and you can achieve this with the foundations we have found above.

Ageing is definitely something to be embraced as a sign of a life well-lived, but just because you’re embracing your age doesn’t mean you need to look it.

There’s no denying that anti-ageing is one of the most popular buzzwords when it comes to skincare, with countless products promising miraculous results in a matter of weeks.

From plumped skin, to reduced wrinkles and a brighter complexion, the claims can sometimes sound too good to be true – so what should you be using?

The appearance of ageing is caused by five things; collagen breakdown, photo defence, inflammation, oxidation and glycation.

(Image: INSKIN COSMEDICS / Instagram)

Marie Enna-Cocciolone, skincare guru and the founder of INSKIN COSMEDICS, tells Now To Love that the appearance of ageing is caused by five things and that each of them cause the skin to change in ways we associate with ageing.

The five factors are:

 • Collagen breakdown – 75 per cent of the skin is dry weight and quick to break down naturally, let alone under hormonal pressures and ill health.

 • Photo defence – Repeated exposure to UV accounts for almost 90 per cent of premature ageing.

 • Inflammation – The skin’s first line of defence, responsible for sensitivity, redness, and irritation.

 • Oxidation – Oxidative stress disrupts the skin barrier, breakdown collagen and elastin and contributes to uneven skin tone.

 • Glycation – Excess glucose molecules in the body contribute to the hardening of skin fibres that ultimately cause skin breakdown, heavy lines, and sagging.

So how can you effectively address these signs of ageing? Marie says there are a few key ingredients to look out for.

“An active skincare range without a doubt includes three main vitamins A, B3 and C, technically referred to as Retinol, Niacinamide and Ascorbic Acid,” she explains.

“The synergy of these hero Vitamins plays a major role in fighting the five causes of aging and are best complemented with Hyaluronic Acid for Hydration, active oils for nourishment and advanced peptides for advanced skin treatments.”

Many Australian women will be familiar with those ingredients, having spotted their names on countless skincare products available in the country.

But Marie warns that not all products are made equal, revealing that very few skincare brands worldwide use these key ingredients in their active doses.

“Sadly, in Australia, a brand using a small percentage of actives can make the same claims as a brand using the optimum dose,” she adds.

With that in mind, your best bet when it comes to anti-ageing is finding products with these active ingredients in their optimal doses, while maintaining a consistent skincare routine.

As Marie tells us, “If the skin is functioning at its peak, it has its best chance to remain healthy and youthful.”

Sweatproof your makeup! https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/makeup/sweatproof-makeup-79873/ Mon, 22 Jan 2024 03:29:50 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/makeup/sweatproof-makeup-79873 Don't let the high summer humidity dampen your glam.

The post Sweatproof your makeup! appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
The sweaty months are upon us, and summer in Australia just loves to create havoc with our beauty regimens.

The humidity and an ever-present sheen of sweat tends to cause our mascara to smudge and foundation to slide right off our skin.

The good news is, there are ways to keep your makeup in place, even on the hottest of days. We’ve rounded up the best sweat-proof makeup products to pop into your beauty bag.

Get the dewy look without your makeup sweating off in 10 minutes.

Know your skin type

To ensure you’re choosing the right products, you’ll need to understand a bit about your skin type.

If you tend towards dry skin, you may not need to worry about summer oiliness as much.

You may also not benefit from more matte base products, like primer or sunscreen.

However, if you possess oily or combination skin, matte products will become a must.

Remember: as with any makeup advice, what works for some may not work for all.

Understanding your skin type can go a long way to help you weed out any recommendations that won’t work for you.

Base

Use this amazing primer paired with either a matte foundation or a dewy foundation for the perfect base.

(Credit: Supplied)

If you have oily skin, stick to matte products.

Start with a matte primer to help keep shine at bay from the most fundamental level.

Follow this up with a silicone-based foundation. Water-based foundations may be more likely to shift, whereas silicone foundations are more water-resistant – and by water, we mean sweat!

Eyes

Make sure to use an eyeshadow primer to ensure your colour stays and then top off with either a volumising mascara or a lengthening mascara.

(Credit: Supplied)

One reason your mascara is sliding down your face could be because your eyelids are too oily.

The skin in this area tends to be on the oilier side already, so in summer you need to make sure you’ve sorted out that problem before anything else.

Using an eye primer can help stop the oil from your skin running into lashes, which then minimises the chance of your mascara and eyeliner smudging.

When it comes to mascara, try a tubing product. Sure, you can opt for a waterproof mascara, but tubing mascara comes off easier when the day is done.

Final touch

Whether you are after a matte look, a dewy look or just need the makeup to stay all day, these setting sprays are the best of the best.

(Credit: sUPPLIED)

After spending time applying your makeup, the last thing you want is for all that hard work to sweat off.

That’s where a setting spray will come in handy.

A few spritzes of a hydrating spray will minimise smudging and help your makeup last longer – an essential for balmy nights.

For oilier skin types, it’s best to use a water-resistant spray to prevent the humidity from causing further havoc on your skin.

Jennifer Aniston can basically do no wrong when it comes to her style; and her hair is no exception.

At the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, the 54 year old actress debuted a new haircut that was very reminiscent of her Friends character, Rachel Green; and we have one thing to say: iconic.

Jennifer Aniston has had no fear in experimenting when it comes to her hair, and has tried out a multitude of different colours, lengths and textures.

It seems like Jen has had almost every hairstyle under the sun over the duration of her career, and no matter what she does with her hair, she always looks like a million bucks.

Join us as we take a stroll down memory lane and roundup all of Jennifer Aniston’s best hairstyles over the years.

Jennifer Aniston Rachel Green Friends Hair

The hairdo Jen rocked during the early days of filming as Rachel Green in Friends was so influential in the 90s that it was simply referred to as “The Rachel”.

The style consisted of a honey-blonde, mid-length, slightly feathered bob.

At the Golden Globes in January 2024, Jen debuted a chopped hairstyle reminiscent of Rachel Green’s iconic ‘do in Friends.

Jennifer brought back her infamous “The Rachel” style with a modern twist.

Jennifer Aniston straight hair

This hairstyle became the actress’ go-to signature look, especially during the early 2000s.

The mid-length, straight style with blonde highlights and light bangs has been a staple for Jen over the years.

Jennifer Aniston curly hair

Jennifer debuted relaxed, beachy curls at the 2002 Emmy Awards.

At the time, Jen had rarely worn her hair curly so it was truly iconic.

Jennifer Aniston bangs

The warm-toned bronde colour teamed up with the voluminous side bangs look was super popular during the early 2000s.

And no one did it better than Jennifer Aniston.

Jennifer Aniston 2010s hair

During the 2010s Jen lightened things up a bit and went more blonde.

The face-framing highlights and long layers suited her to a T.

Jennifer Aniston 80s hair

Jennifer’s original 80s hair!

The dark brunette colour made her eyes pop and the voluminous texture screams 80s in the best way.

Jennifer Aniston blonde bob

It seriously feels like Jennifer Aniston can pull off any colour and style.

The golden blonde bob was yet another hairstyle that people tried to imitate.

From curly 80s hair to modern day style queen: Kylie Minogue’s jaw-dropping beauty transformation will have you spinning around https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/kylie-minogue-plastic-surgery-54986/ Thu, 14 Dec 2023 01:40:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/ageing/kylie-minogue-plastic-surgery-54986 We've found out her exact secret!

The post From curly 80s hair to modern day style queen: Kylie Minogue’s jaw-dropping beauty transformation will have you spinning around appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
She’s been on our screens and in our ears for decades, creating a career so memorable that you don’t even need to utter her surname for everyone to know exactly which fabulous Australian you’re talking about.

Kylie Minogue is an icon not only in Australia, but in every corner of the globe. She first captured our hearts on Neighbours in 1986 as the adorable tomboy Charlene Robinson, and then went on to forge an insanely successful pop career.

Anyone who’s been on Sydney’s Oxford St on a Saturday night will know Kylie’s hits like Spinning Around and Can’t Get You Out of My Head still fire up a dance floor now, just like they did during their heyday.

This weekend Kylie turns 54, but her incredibly age-defying face continues to look absolutely gorgeous, even after all these years.

While she clearly takes care of her body through a great diet and exercise regime, Kylie has been open about the fact that she’s had a little help from her surgeon to maintain her youthful looks, admitting she’s “tried it all.”

We’ll have whatever she’s having, thanks!

“For all time women have wanted to, for the most part, look their best. It’s just that what we have available to us today is – what it is today. And if you want to take advantage of it, yeah. I’m preferring to be a lot more natural these days. I’ve tried Botox, I’ve tried it all,” she told Elle magazine in 2009.

“I’m definitely not one of those people who says, ‘You shouldn’t do this.’ Everyone individually can do what they want. I also think it doesn’t have the stigma that it had when I was growing up,” Kylie said.

As any woman over the age of 40 can attest to, Kylie said looking in the mirror was sometimes like looking at a different person.

“There are lots of times I look in the mirror and I see that gravity has taken hold. Or suddenly see my face on a phone or on Skype and it’s like a Spielberg special effect and you just scream, “Who is that?'” she joked.

As for the stigma surrounding women who go under the knife, Kylie said: “You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.”

Now swipe below to see how much Kylie’s look has changed, from the early 1990s to now.

But in 2010, the then 41-year-old told News of the World that she had ditched Botox.

“I don’t any more, I won’t go near it. I have lines. You can see the lines on my face.”

And if you perhaps thought that Kylie had taken things a little too far and was starting to look a little, well, frozen, you’re not alone.

In 2017, Kylie told The Australian that the pressure to look young had started to take a hold on her.

“I’m so used to it, which is almost a sad thing to say, but that’s just been my job for so long,” she said.

When asked if being in the public eye had impacted how she presents herself, she replied: “I wouldn’t like to feel I have to dress a certain way or look a certain way that is age-defined.”

In 2018, Sydney surgeon Dr Daniel Lanzer, who has not treated Kylie but has years of experience in the field, speculated that Kylie had some filler, and possibly some liposuction and a “mini-face lift” to maintain her age-defying looks.

“She’s 50 and she still has very tight skin and cheeks. As we get older, most people don’t have those prominent high cheekbones. So that’s either fabulous genetics, or she’s had some sort of filler to keep that fullness,” Dr Lanzer said.

“The most common procedure people her age have would be fat transfer, which involves transferring fat from the hips or bottom. People her age would do that and inject the fat along the cheeks and create that fullness.”

WATCH BELOW: Kylie surprises her fans with an intimate performance. Story continues after video.

Dr Lanzer added that face lifts have now gone out of fashion, as women seek out surgical procedures that will leave them with a more natural look.

“There’s a really big movement away from big face lifts. Today, more people are going for some combination of volume [aka filler], with a mini lift,” he said.

“A mini-lift involves just taking a little bit of skin from the ear and putting some stitches in behind the ear, without cutting into the muscle. That pulls the face back slightly. A full, deep face lift involves lifting the cheeks and going under the muscle.

Anyone over 40 will know the neck is a major ageing bugbear, but Dr Lanzer says Kylie has most likely had some work done to fix that area.

“Liposculpture removes all the fat and sagging from under the chin and jowls. We do a little lift of the skin and that gives a very natural appearance, which is what everyone is after now.”

Whatever Kylie is doing, it’s clearly working!

Best Heatless Hair Curler: Mermade Hair Heatless Curls Kit

(Image: Mermade Hair)

Heatless curls kit, $49 at Adore Beauty

One of the biggest TikTok hair trends over the last year has been the ‘heatless curl’. This ingenious hair tool is the much needed antidote to heated hair curlers.

The Mermade Hair Heatless Curls Kit is a unique hair styling tool that helps create stunning curls without any heat.

It’s incredibly easy to use and requires you to wind your hair around the The 100% Mulberry Silk Rod and tie the ends with the two silk scrunchies included in the kit. The result is stunning curls with little effort.

SHOP NOW

Pros:

 • No heat damage to hair.

 • Soft silk rod for smooth and frizz free curls.

 • Lightweight and very easy to use.

Cons:

 • Takes longer to achieve curls compared to heat styling tools.

 • Some may find it uncomfortable to sleep in.

 • Not ideal for short hair types.

Types of hair curlers

There are three main types of hair curlers: curling wands, curling irons, and automatic curlers. Each type has its pros and cons, and the best option for you will depend on your hair type and texture.

Curling wands are the most popular option for creating beachy waves.

They typically have a tapered, ceramic barrel and no clamp, allowing you to wrap your hair around the wand to create the curl.

Curling irons on the other hand, have a cylindrical barrel and a clamp that holds your hair in place as you curl it. They’re ideal for creating more defined, uniform curls.

Automatic curlers generally use an advanced technology to wind hair around or into the barrel of the curler to curl the hair.

Factors to consider

When choosing a hair curler, there are several factors to consider:

Heat Settings: Look for a hair curler with adjustable heat settings, so you can choose the right temperature for your hair type. This is especially important if you have fine or damaged hair, as high heat can cause further damage.

Barrel Size: The size of the barrel will determine the size of the curls you create. If you have long hair, opt for a curling wand or curling iron with a larger barrel, such as 32mm. For shorter hair, a smaller barrel, such as 25mm, will create tighter curls.

Ease of Use: Look for a hair curler that’s easy to use, with a comfortable grip and intuitive controls. A curling wand or curling iron with a cool tip can also be helpful, as it allows you to hold the hair in place without burning your fingers.

Material: Ceramic and titanium are popular materials for hair curlers, with ceramic being gentle and distributing heat evenly, and titanium heating up quickly, ideal for thick and coarse hair. Tourmaline, generating negative ions to reduce frizz and static, is another material to consider depending on hair type and desired curls.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the easiest curler to use?

The easiest curler to use depends on personal preference and hair type.

However, some types of curlers that are generally considered easy to use are automatic curlers, which do the work for you with a push of a button, and curling wands with clamp-free designs, which allow for easy wrapping of hair around the barrel. Some would argue there can be a learning curve to using automatic hair tools.

Additionally, larger barrel curlers or ones with tapered shapes can be easier to handle and result in more natural-looking waves or curls.

Is ceramic or titanium curler better?

Both ceramic and titanium curling irons have their own advantages and disadvantages. Ceramic curling irons are great at distributing heat evenly, which helps to prevent hot spots that can damage the hair. They also provide negative ions that help to reduce frizz and seal the hair cuticle, resulting in smoother and shinier hair. On the other hand, titanium curling irons heat up faster and can maintain a consistent high heat, which makes them great for styling coarse and thick hair. They are also lightweight and durable.

Ultimately, the choice between a ceramic or titanium curling iron depends on your hair type, styling needs, and personal preferences. If you have fine or damaged hair and want to achieve smooth and shiny curls, a ceramic curling iron might be a better option. If you have thick or coarse hair and need a curling iron that heats up quickly and can handle high temperatures, a titanium curling iron might be a better choice.

Is there a hair curler that doesn’t damage hair?

The only hair tool that won’t provide heat damage is a heatless curler like the Mermade above. That’s not to say it can’t tug or pull at your hair, potentially causing damage, but it at least won’t cause any heat damage.

Some tools are designed to minimise heat damage but ultimately any heat can cause some damage, particularly to coloured and fine or thin hair.

Tips for perfect curls

Use heat protectant: Before using a hair curler, apply a heat protectant spray or serum to your hair to protect it from heat damage.

Choose the right barrel size: Choose a barrel size that’s appropriate for your hair length and the type of curls you want to create.

Don’t overdo it: Over-curling your hair can damage it, so be sure to give your hair a break between styling sessions.

Use the right technique: Wrap your hair around the barrel, holding it in place for a few seconds before releasing it for a more natural look.

The post Get the Cate Blanchett glow with 9 of the most flawless dewy foundations for mature skin appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
No matter how old you are, finding the perfect foundation that gives you just the right amount of coverage, glow and hydration is a game-changing moment for your beauty routine.

Naturally as we age texture, dryness, fine lines and pigmentation come out of the woodworks to take up residency on our skin.

However, instead of looking for heavy duty formulas that can look mask like and at times can accentuate the very things we are trying to hide, opting for a more nourishing foundation that enhances your skin is the way to nail your base as you age.

Not to mention that a good glow never goes out of style. Who doesn’t want to look truly radiant?

Tips for finding the perfect foundation for mature skin

 • Look for light to medium coverage to avoid the mask like foundation look. Thicker formulas tend to settle into fine lines and look dry on mature skin.

 • Illuminating foundations with reflective qualities help to breathe new life into skin that has lost that certain quality which naturally happens as we age.

 • Hydrating foundations that melt into skin will help to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

 • Go light. Apply your foundation in light layers and build up coverage where necessary to avoid heavy looking, textured skin.

 • Avoid powder and instead set with a fixing spray for better longevity. Powder will only accentuate lines and make skin look dry and thirsty.

 • If you can, look for foundations with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid and antioxidants to nourish your skin throughout the day.

The post Does BB cream work on mature skin? Proof it’s the ultimate beauty all-rounder at any age appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
When it comes to skincare and makeup, BB creams are one of the best all-rounder products on the market.

Combining the skincare benefits of active ingredients with the coverage and radiance of makeup, these ‘beauty balms’ or ‘blemish balms’ offer the best of both worlds.

They’re typically lighter than a full foundation and offer a more radiant, natural glow – and they’re a surprisingly effective product for making mature skin look its best.

April Roberts, Sisley’s Head Trainer, tells Now To Love exclusively that BB creams and tinted skincare products do a great job of enhancing the beauty that’s already there, especially when paired with a solid skincare routine.

“It’s about using products that are going to suit their needs, desired results and the time they have to spend on their skin,” she says of women looking for the perfect products for mature skin.

The glamorous Laura Dern is known to use Sisley skincare and makeup.

“Focus on using makeup that will hydrate, protect against harmful environmental factors and add a luminous glow.”

BB creams and other lightweight formulas that combine skincare and coverage are therefore a perfect choice, especially for women who want to save time on their beauty routines.

With typically less coverage than a classic foundation, BB creams let your natural skin shine through. That means you’ll want to invest in a nourishing skincare routine to make sure your base looks its absolute best.

“To create the perfect canvas for makeup application, use good quality skincare to ensure the skin is firm, plump, hydrated and healthy,” April suggests.

“A regular but gentle exfoliant, such as Sisley Buff and Wash, will help to ensure skin is smooth and radiant for make-up.

“A serum and a targeted moisturiser that address any concerns such as pigmentation, radiance, firming or fine lines will also ensure that skin is in the best condition to allow a more seamless make-up result.”

It’s also a good idea to apply your makeup with brushes instead of your fingers or a beauty sponge, as they allow for more precise application as you build up the perfect amount of coverage for your skin.

As for what the “perfect” makeup look is for mature skin, April says it all depends on your own preferences and what makes you feel confident and beautiful.

That means finding products that enhance your beauty at any age, like BB creams that will nourish your skin and provide an effortless makeup base.

Trinny Woodall’s secret to nailing the art of a “no-makeup makeup” look https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/trinny-woodall-no-makeup-makeup-look-79080/ Wed, 25 Oct 2023 22:42:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/makeup/trinny-woodall-no-makeup-makeup-look-79080 Because beauty is ageless.

The post Trinny Woodall’s secret to nailing the art of a “no-makeup makeup” look appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
If there’s one person who knows a thing or two about helping women look good, it’s Trinny Woodall. From fashion to beauty and even to life advice, Trinny is constantly dishing out tips and tricks for every kind of woman.

That’s exactly why Now To Love sat down with Trinny to chat all things skincare, routine and makeup for women of all ages – or rather, the “ageless woman” as she prefers to say.

“A 40-year-old plus would identify and say that’s what I want to feel,” Trinny says. “I don’t want to feel defined by my age.”

More specifically, it’s through her brand, Trinny London, that she hopes to represent those women, who will at some point find themselves thinking, “I want to choose, make the right choices,” she echoes.

“We are the brand for the right choices because we tell a story, we explain skincare, we help you understand a routine, and we want to make makeup easy, but still be you.”

“I don’t want to feel defined by my age.”

(Image: Instagram)

With the rise of “no-makeup makeup” looks and even celebrities embracing a bare-face at major events – take Pamela Anderson, for example, going completely make-up free at Paris Fashion Week – embracing natural beauty has never been more in trend.

“It made me see [Pam’s] vulnerability more, which is not a bad thing at all,” says Trinny, “it’s just a different perspective. Because when people have a lot of makeup on, it becomes a mask.”

There’s also a profound difference between having no makeup on and “no-makeup makeup”, Trinny points out, where the latter is about “looking like you don’t wear makeup, but not looking at all tired.”

“It can take as long as a good makeup look. It’s just using colours that are very neutral to your face. And then actually wearing no makeup is what Pam did at Paris Fashion Week,” she says.

One way to achieve a “no-makeup makeup” look is with a BB cream for lightweight coverage that can smooth out the skin for a flawless base.

For Trinny, it’s her very own product, the BFF SPF 30 Cream, that she uses first thing in the morning when “I want to have hardly any makeup” but still want a touch of coverage.

Trinny and her daughter Lyla.

(Image: Instagram)

It’s also about understanding how makeup has evolved over the years. In the 80s, it was all about achieving a certain look, and in the 90s, it was all matte, a bit of bronzer and no blush.

“Then you get to the naughties and the 10s and you’re thinking, ‘this is the makeup that has always saved me’, but then it’s suddenly not working for you,” Trinny says.

“Then you have to figure out, what is it? Is it that having that matte skin when my skin’s a little bit tired, makes it look more tired? So how do I introduce glow without seeing my teenage daughter who does glow, to an extent that I think she’s sweaty? How do I get that balance in what glow represents on the skin?”

“But it’s simple; don’t put the glow where you would naturally be oily, don’t do a T-zone of glow, do a cheek and a forehead of glow. Because then there’s life to your skin,” she says.

Along with her beauty and skincare line, Trinny recently launched her book Fearless to collate the valuable style and beauty tips she shares with her ‘Trinny tribe’ on social media, into one easy-to-digest manual.

“I just thought of all the different life things I talk about, from business to getting your self-confidence back to looking after yourself,” she says of what inspired the beauty and style guide.

So, armed with Trinny’s tips and her cult-products from her beauty brand, it’s never been a better time to try new things within the beauty sphere and find the products that work.

Which is exactly why we’ve shopped around and chosen some of our top picks from Trinny London – all of which you can see below.

I’m tired. You’re tired. We’re all tired.

While we figure out how to get eight hours of uninterrupted shut-eye and formulate some healthy nighttime screen habits, we’ve been on the hunt for hydrating eye creams that can help reduce puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles, as well as our giant under-eye bags.

But here’s the thing – finding a cheap eye cream that actually works is super hard.

While there are loads of expensive formulations that definitely work the trick they’re not exactly affordable, especially in the week before payday.

So we’ve been testing out a few more affordable options on our tired little under-eyes, and have found these cheaper products definitely make a massive difference.

Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Crème, $63 at Sephora

This is a cult-favourite eye cream that constantly sells out at Sephora, thanks to its vitamin C-packed formula that can help reduce dark circles.

It’s a great eye cream to wear during the day because the formula is not too greasy or oily, making it easy to apply your makeup over the top.

FYI, if you’ve been trying to get the men in your life to be more diligent with their skincare, this product could be great for them.

It sinks into the skin well, so it doesn’t look like they’re wearing anything at all, plus it smells amazing – like orange juice.

SHOP NOW

Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Eye Cream, $55 at Amazon

American skincare guru Paula Begoun is the brains behind her wildly successful eponymous skincare label, which is all about delivering science-backed ingredients for the most affordable price possible.

This eye cream contains shea butter, vitamin C and the popular antioxidant resveratrol, to brighten and hydrate lacklustre under-eyes.

SHOP NOW

The Inkey List Caffeine eye cream, $19 at Sephora

The inclusion of caffeine in skincare products is a new trend that has emerged over the past few years.

Because caffeine is a diuretic, it can help to reduce water retention under the eyes, a major cause of puffiness.

The addition of squalane, a popular hydrating ingredient and a small amount of hyaluronic acid, means this gel-like formula is also super moisturising.

SHOP NOW

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG, $14 at The Ordinary

This popular caffeine eye serum from budget skincare brand The Ordinary is delivered in a dropper bottle, meaning the formulation stays fresh and preserved from the elements.

Plus, it lasts for ages!

SHOP NOW

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado, $62 at Kiehl’s

This eye cream is a cult classic, thanks to it’s uber-hydrating formula.

You only need a little bit, so that tiny pot can last you for months and months, making it a worthwhile investment.

SHOP NOW

Kiehl’s Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream, $74 at Kiehl’s

This anti-ageing product seeks to target areas to promote elasticity and reduce puffiness. It promises that the cream will work to diminish crows feet and fine lines over time for a more bright and fresh appearance.

The unique ingredients include copper PCA, which stabilises collagen, calcium PCA to reduce the damage to collagen fibers, and caffeine to brighten the eye.

SHOP NOW

Innisfree Jeju Orchid Eye Cream, $45 at Adore Beauty

Korean skincare is one of the best choices on the market, and this Innisfree product is a great antioxidant power that will keep your eyes young.

It’s made up of a rich consistency that targets fine lines and wrinkles.

SHOP NOW

Weleda Pomegranate Firming Eye Cream, $42.95 at Adore Beauty

Weleda is the French brand of choice for those of us who are obsessed with hydration, and this delicate product infuses the skin with antioxidants, and it’s fragrance-free, which is a bonus.

Plus, this is a good choice for vegans.

8 anti-pollution skincare products you need in your routine https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/anti-pollution-skincare-78824/ Wed, 11 Oct 2023 01:00:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/beauty/skincare/anti-pollution-skincare-78824 If you live in or near a city these are a must!

The post 8 anti-pollution skincare products you need in your routine appeared first on Now To Love.

Many factors including the quality of the air we breathe, the food we eat and even the water we drink can affect our skin.

We’ve already seen Sydney smoke from back-burning bushfires and as it comes into summer there’s a possibility for more and you want to be prepared.

Another reason to wear anti-pollution skincare is if you live in or near a city. Where there’s more pollution there are more issues.

Many studies have linked pollution with hives, acne, premature ageing, eczema and other similar skin conditions.

Wearing anti-pollution skincare is a good precaution to take against those conditions.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir (A$26)

(Credit: Sephora)

The Caudalie Beauty Elixir is full of polyphenols that protect the skin against the oxidation that we face daily from stress, our diets, and most importantly pollution.

This product is especially loved by Victoria and David Beckham after VB shared it on Twitter in 2012 and just this year their daughter Harper was seen misting David with it in a reel.

Aesthetics Rx Anti Pollution Cleansing Oil (A$79)

(Credit: Adore Beauty)

This oil cleanser is the best to use morning and night because not only does it remove sebum and excess oil but also, repairs and restores your skin barrier.

Starting with an anti-pollution cleanser is a really easy way to influence anti-pollution skincare into your routine. It’s definitely the bare minimum though.

Napoleon Perdis Anti Pollution Milk Toning Essence (A$49)

(Credit: Adore Beauty)

This is to be used similarly to a primer. Using this will assist in revitalising and improving moisture in the skin making it more glass-like.

COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence (A$38)

(Credit: Adore Beauty)

Snail mucin sounds borderline terrifying, but it’s one of the best things you can do for your skin. And no, there are no actual snails in it.

Snail secretion has been used in Korean skincare products as a way to lock in moisture before applying other serums.

Snail secretion is used by snails to protect themselves, similarly, it helps protect your skin barrier.

Biologi Bg Defence Anti-Pollution Morning Serum (A$62)

(Credit: Adore Beauty)

The big this with anti-ageing products is they should be anti-pollution too!

This will not only defend against environmental aggressors but also brighten your skin for a more awake and plump look to the skin.

Thalgo Spiruline Boost Energising Anti-Pollution Gel-Cream ($A83)

(Credit: Adore Beauty)

These products are a bit more luxurious but they do help with anti-ageing.

This product helps smooth fine lines y plumping the skin.

It’s ideal for women over 25 as it activates the synthesis of collagen and also has that defence against pollution.

Naturally Serious Skin Warrior Anti-Pollution Repair Cream ($A25)

(Credit: Sephora)

If you want a good product grab this one as it is 50% off on sale currently.

This product is made for daily use and protection against pollution with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, squalene and ceramide to ensure a lock-in of hydration and moisture.

The magnolia and mangosteen are the main ingredients that defend against pollution and ageing.

According to Sephora, a clinical study on women over 30 showed a reduction of fine lines and an increase in skin barrier just after 4 weeks.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid Facial Sunscreen SPF 50+ (A$36)

(Credit: Adore Beauty)

SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN!

This lightweight foundation is great for all skin types especially acne-prone skin.

Sunscreen will always be the number one anti-ageing prevention and this one in particular also has ingredients that defend against pollution.
