When news spread that Hollywood’s favourite, Ryan Gosling would be gracing the streets of Sydney for his new film The Fall Guy, locals and tourists alike flocked to find him.

Putting aside the oversized fur coat and Ken persona, Ryan portrays Colt Seavers, a down-and-out stuntman who must find the missing star of his ex-girlfriend’s film.

Ryan stars alongside Emily Blunt.

Joining him in the movie releasing April 24, 2024, is Emily Blunt (Jody Moreno), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Tom Ryder), Hannah Waddingham (Gail) Stephanie Hsu (Alma Milan) and Teresa Palmer, directed by David Leitch.

To film the epic action-comedy, the cast and crew came to Australia. So whether you’re a film-nut, want bragging rights about ‘being there’ or searching for a new destination to add to the wish list, we have found all the filming locations for The Fall Guy.

Primarily, the PG-13 film was filmed in Sydney throughout late 2022 and early 2023 with five main filming locations.

The Fall Guy was filmed in Disney Studios Australia, which is located near Centennial Park.

For various other scenes, the Hollywood celebrities took to the streets of Sydney – where fans played ‘where’s Wally’ but for Ryan Gosling.

As expected, the production featured scenes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Many Sydneysiders will remember the havoc filming caused across the city as the area was shut down for filming for several days.

The stunt filmed on the Harbour Bridge is arguably the films most ambitious and “disruptive.” Director David revealed to Man of Many there was only a four hour window to film the stunt, in which Ryan was dragged across the bridge at 48km/h “while he hangs onto a shovel.”

Production also filmed at Kurnell – located near Cronulla – Martin Place, and near the Anzac Bridge in Pyrmont.

Amy Winehouse will go down in history for her iconic and unmatched vocals as a jazz singer and her staple think black eyeliner. In 2024, yet another documentary will be released detailing her life.

The singer suddenly passed away on July 23, 2011, from alcohol poisoning, a countless number of documentaries have been released including the new biopic by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Back To Black with Marisa Abela taking the lead as Amy.

While Amy was a success in the UK music industry, her fame spread across the globe with the release of her album Back To Black in October 27, 2006. Following this success, Amy had six Grammy nominations in 2007, winning five of those awards.

Despite her arguably small time in the public eye, she rapidly snatched the attention – and continues to hold it today. Many have tried to adequately retell the story of her life, and many of these documentaries have failed to impress fans.

With Back To Black throwing Amy’s story back into the spotlight, we discover where fans can watch all the retellings in Australia.

Where to watch the Amy Winehouse documentary in Australia?

The 2024 biopic Back To Black arrived at Australian cinemas on April 18. As for when and which streaming platform it will hit following its cinematic debut remains unknown.

However, the 2015 documentary ‘Amy’ is available for streaming on Apple TV+ and ABC iview. The biopic is arguably the most popular among them all as it shares never-before-seen archival footage of the iconic singer.

Other documentaries include Jeremy Marre’s 2018’s Amy Winehouse: Back to Black which looked at the making of the iconic album – available also Freeview Australia; and Marina Parker 2021’s Reclaiming Amy where her friends and family reflected on her legacy – available on SBS On Demand.

Stream Amy on Apple TV+ from $12.99/mth, with a 7-day free trial.

Who is cast in Back To Black?

Portraying the singer and songwriter is Marisa Abela known for her role in Industry and Rogue Agent. Joining her in the biopic is Eddie Marsan (Mitch Winehouse), Lesley Manville (Cynthia Winehouse), Juliet Cowan (Janis Winehouse), Jack O’Connell (Blake Fielder-Civil), Jeff TUnke (Mark Ronson), and Ansu Kabia (Raye Consbert).

Why is Back To Black labelled controversial?

Since the July 2022 announcement that Back to Black was to be made, it has been labelled controversial by fans – particularly its casting of Marisa as Amy. With some fans even taking to social media claiming Lady Gaga would be the perfect Amy.

Others have suggested that there has not been enough time since Amy Winehouse’s 2011 death.

Road House sees Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor experience each other’s worlds, with Irish UFC champion and boxer Conor making his acting debut, and Hollywood star Jake stepping into a real-life UFC fighting ring for the first time.

“I consider that [the UFC ring] a sacred space for a professional fighter,” Jake, 43, tells TV WEEK. “I consider the stage the same place, but in a different way, so to be allowed in there [was incredible]. We gave it our all.”

Road House is a retelling of the 1989 film starring the late Patrick Swayze, the Dirty Dancing lead who Jake had starred alongside in the cult 2001 film Donnie Darko

“My sister took me to see Dirty Dancing and Road House when we were kids,” Jake says. “Patrick was always so good to me, and I wanted to honour him and his energy from the first film.”

Road House follows Dalton (Jake), a former UFC fighter who’s running from his past when he’s spotted by Frankie (Jessica Williams), the owner of a roadhouse in the Florida Keys.

When a violent gang working for crime boss Brandt (Billy Magnussen) keeps disturbing the peace at her venue, she recruits Dalton as her bouncer to keep them at bay. But when muscle-for-hire Knox (Conor) shows up, what ensues is far more brutal than anything Dalton faced in the ring.

Flashbacks of Dalton as a fighter were shot at the UFC 285 event in Las Vegas in 2023, where Jake had only minutes to film his scenes between bouts, while Conor, the former UFC featherweight and lightweight world champion, was in the stands for a change – revving up the crowd to get behind the action.

“When the fans saw me cheering, and then they started cheering, it was worth its weight in gold,” the 35-year-old says.

Conor admits filming the fight scenes was harder than he’d expected.

“I’ve finished people in seconds – 10 seconds is my fastest UFC world title fight,” he says. “But these are 18-hour days. Also, it’s real – you’re fighting, and there’s a bit of script, but you’re taking wallops. Jake slammed the door on my head about 20 times. I had a black eye from the door, with the director saying, ‘It doesn’t look real enough – do it again.’ I said, ‘I’ve got a f**king black eye, director!’”

Jake says that while he likes to keep in good shape, Road House “was a whole different game”.

“I had a team of people, including a phenomenal trainer, a nutritionist and an excellent chef who prepared my meals,” he says. It was two months of intense working out beforehand.”

And can we expect to see Conor acting again anytime soon?

“If you want to say I’m going to be Hollywood’s hard man, who could stop me?” Conor asks. “I did this for real, and I’ve done it for real all my career, so I for sure could be.”

Pia Miranda on the “rough” acting industry and enjoying a career renaissance at 50 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/windcatcher-pia-miranda/ Sun, 24 Mar 2024 19:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=508333 ‘I nearly gave up.'

The post Pia Miranda on the “rough” acting industry and enjoying a career renaissance at 50 appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
She’s one of Australia’s most recognisable faces thanks to her iconic role in coming-of-age film Looking For Alibrandi. Now, almost 25 years on, Pia Miranda is busier than ever, popping up on Australian Survivor, The Masked Singer, Dancing With The Stars and last year’s drama miniseries Heat.

“I’m having a bit of a renaissance,” Pia, 50, tells TV WEEK. “There’s a period in some people’s lives where you take a step back because you’re raising children, and I was pretty hands-on raising my kids [Lily, 13, and James, nine]. But then I started working more again, and I really enjoy being part of the industry.”

Pia’s latest role is in the Stan original film Windcatcher, a sweet family movie about a 10-year-old Indigenous youngster named Percy Boy (Lennox Monaghan), who stands up to bullies while following his dreams of being a race-winning runner. Pia plays one of Percy Boy’s teachers, who encourages his journey.

“It’s a family story, but there’s a bigger message,” she says. “The Indigenous Australian element was so seamlessly put into the story in such a beautiful way. It’s about celebrating our heritage, and all the things that are part of being Australian.”

Percy Boy’s battle is close to Pia’s heart, given her role as an ambassador for bullying awareness charity Dolly’s Dream. Pia’s son is a similar age to Percy Boy and she hopes the message of Windcatcher hits home for him.

“My son is in grade five and the group chats have started on phones. I’m really active in checking the chat, opening conversations with other parents and making sure everything’s OK,” Pia says.

“Even though Windcatcher isn’t about technology, the message is the same: how easy it is to not realise someone’s having a hard time, and how to call out bullying. And how to see everyone as an individual and appreciate their differences.”

Pia has gone from playing the student in Looking For Alibrandi to the teacher – a role she leaned into off-camera.

“When I did Alibrandi, I had such a nice time with the older actors, in the sense that they were imparting their wisdom, helping me through a scene or telling me how to navigate the industry,” she recalls. “They were wonderful to me.

pia miranda
“It’s a lovely full circle.”
(Image: Supplied)

“It’s a lovely full circle that I can be that person to these young people.”

It’s hard to believe her breakout film is turning 25 next year, as Looking For Alibrandi (based on Melina Marchetta’s 1992 novel) hit cinemas in 2000.

“It’s scary!” Pia says with a laugh.

So is an anniversary reunion special on the cards for the cast?

“I’m good friends with Melina, and Kick [Gurry] and I are close. I caught up with Anthony [LaPaglia] a couple of months ago. I haven’t seen Leeanna [Walsmann] for a while, which I’d like to. Maybe we could all get up and present an award at the Logies next year!”

Pia recently hit a big milestone: turning 50. There was a time when roles were scarce for women over 50, but Pia says that’s changing.

“A lot of women who are older have great roles – I just watched [drama] Prosper on Stan and there’s Rebecca Gibney kicking goals.”

She’s busy now, but Pia concedes there were times she felt like giving acting away, and that changing careers was tempting.

“Often, we’ll have a year out of work and we don’t get paid huge amounts… but I didn’t know what else to do. I did go and become a yoga teacher, but never actually taught,” she laughs.

“The good thing about acting is that you have a community – other people who understand. And sometimes, you’re the person working, helping others through the hard time.

“I remember, years ago, I had an actress friend who was working at the markets. And she ended up in the newspaper, a horrible article about how she had ‘fallen hard’,” Pia recalls.

pia miranda dancing with the stars
(Image: Supplied)

“It shook me. It felt like my freedom to work in a shop had been taken away, because I didn’t want the humiliation of a story written about me. There’s nothing wrong with a job in a shop, but when you haven’t worked for a long time, your self-esteem is quite low.”

Pia says she encourages young actors to be open when it comes to work.

“As I’ve got older, I’ve realised I need to keep my career path wide. Now, I dip into other things. It gives me more freedom, and I encourage young people to think about what else they can do in the industry so they’re not relying on acting jobs to boost their self-esteem. That can be really rough.”

In this way, Pia’s competing on Australian Survivor in 2019 was pretty life-changing, as she’s been working constantly since.

Survivor definitely broke me – it was so intensely difficult,” she says of winning the Champions Vs Contenders season. “But it also healed me. It gave me confidence. I put a lot of pressure on myself to be perfect, perhaps because of Alibrandi. In a lot of ways, Survivor freed me up.”

That said, don’t expect Pia to pop up in the jungle anytime soon.

“I don’t think I could do I’m A Celebrity,” she says. “I can’t jump out of planes and don’t want to eat snakes!”

Jessica leads the cast, returning to the screen for the first time since the award-winning movie, The Sapphires, which aired more than a decade ago in 2012. The film followed four talented Australian Aboriginal girls as they entertained troops in Vietnam.

Despite its chaotic telling of a single woman living in England, Bridget Jones’s Diary quickly became a comfort movie for people across the globe.

Bridget (Renee Zellweger) says what she feels at the worst time, consumes a large amount of chardonnay and cigarettes, and is often inappropriate.

“To Bridget, who cannot cook, but who we love… just as she is,” her eccentric friends would say.

One diary holds the many secrets and harsh truths of Bridget Jones, jotted down as she attempts to take control of her life as a thirty-something single woman in London.

Whether you declare yourself a Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) girl or a Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) lover, viewers stick around to watch Bridget Jones’s Diary for the hilarious star of the show – Bridget.

The 2001 romantic comedy was an adaptation of Helen Fielding’s best-selling series. Its success inspired the three-part on-screen franchise which included Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) and Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016) in which Daniel Cleaver did not return but rather Patrick Dempsey as Jack Qwant.

Given Patrick was voted People’s 2023 Sexiest Man Alive, it certainly was not a loss for the Bridget Jones fans.

Despite the third movie releasing eight years ago, the legacy of Bridget Jones continues. And as of early 2024, it was confirmed Bridget Jones would be returning to the big screen with a fourth instalment commencing filming in May.

“Bridget is back and is about to take over London. Filming is being mapped out already and all of the pre-production is in place,” a source told The Mail.

Renee will reprise the character she “adores” alongside Colin and Hugh as their love rival characters.

The film is suspected to follow Helen’s 2013 novel, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy which sees Bridget as a 51-year-old single mother to two children, all the while navigating online dating.

Marvel announces cast for brand-new ‘The Fantastic Four’ reboot https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/fantastic-four-cast/ Mon, 19 Feb 2024 01:53:47 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/?p=505029 Star-studded.

The post Marvel announces cast for brand-new ‘The Fantastic Four’ reboot appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Iconic superhero comic, The Fantastic Four, is once again set for a live-action film remake.

Marvel has announced who has been cast in the legendary roles, with the movie to be released on 25 July 2025.

The Fantastic Four was the first superhero team created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby for Marvel Comics, and is a much-loved cult-classic.

Having been adapted for other media including several video games, animated television series’ and multiple live-action films, this newest iteration of The Fantastic Four is set to be as exciting as ever before.

Who is the new Fantastic Four cast?

Announcing the news on Valentine’s Day, Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the stars who will be suiting up as the iconic superheroes.

It has been revealed that Pedro Pascal will be portraying Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby will be playing Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn will be starring as Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will be portraying Ben Grimm (aka the Thing).

All four actors have become increasingly well-known for their previous work, making it a relatively star-studded cast.

Pedro Pascal (48) is a Chilean-American actor most well-known for his roles in The Last of Us, Game of Thrones and The Mandalorian, while Vanessa Kirby (35) is a British actress who has starred in The Crown, Napoleon and Pieces of a Woman.

Meanwhile, Joseph Quinn (30) has starred in Stranger Things and Game of Thrones, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (46) is most well-known for his roles in The Bear, The Punisher and Girls.

The original cast from the 2005 live-action film included Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm.

The 2015 remake cast featured Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm.

The cast for the 2025 reboot includes Pedro Pascal (top left), Vanessa Kirby (top right), Joseph Quinn (bottom left), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (bottom right). (Images: Getty)

What is the plot of Fantastic Four?

Specific plot details remain limited about the upcoming Fantastic Four film, as per usual with Marvel.

However, the comics portray the Fantastic Four as astronauts who gain superpowers after being exposed to cosmic rays during a mission to outer space. They then use their powers to stop the evil plans of Doctor Victor Von Doom, among other villains.

Since first being introduced in 1961, the characters have continuously been portrayed as a somewhat dysfunctional yet loving family.

What are the Fantastic Four powers?

Mr Fantastic (Reed Richards) is a scientific genius who can stretch, twist and re-shape his body to inhuman proportions, while Invisible Woman (Sue Storm) has the ability to bend and manipulate light to make herself and others invisible, as her name suggests.

Human Torch (Johnny Storm) possesses the ability to control fire, allowing him to project fire from his body as well as has the power to fly, and Thing (Ben Grimms) has been transformed into a rock-like humanoid who has high levels of superhuman strength and durability.

Will John Krasinski be Mr Fantastic?

After appearing as Mr Fantastic in a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, many Marvel fans were wondering if John Krasinski would reprise that role in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie.

Unfortunately for fans, John Krasinski will not be appearing as Reed Richards in the 2025 live-action remake, as Pedro Pascal has officially been cast in the role.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 40 years since we first heard that gravel voice of Kenny Loggins demanding, “Everybody cut footloose!” It’s a lyric that altered pop culture – and dancefloors around the world – forever.

Oh, and the movie? Well, that caused worldwide bedlam too, and still has its star, Kevin Bacon, shaking in his shoes thinking about it.

Kevin became an overnight sensation when the movie came out. (Image: Getty)

“When I became a popstar, the last thing I wanted to be was a popstar,” Kevin, 65, tells the Podcrushed podcast of his overnight fame that came after the film’s release in 1984.

“I had already moved into, ‘I want to be Dustin Hoffman or Meryl or De Niro.’ You know what I mean? I was so into what my idea of a serious actor was, and all of a sudden I was given this thing that was completely not a serious actor.”

While Kevin had already appeared in more than 10 films, including National Lampoon’s Animal House and Friday The 13th, the actor’s ambition to be taken seriously saw him, just like his character Ren in the film, revolt against what was being expected of him.

“I rejected it, full on,” he says. “I tried to self-sabotage that piece of myself and my popularity.”

Kevin also adds that he was left “very, very uncomfortable” with the ensuing press attention and photoshoots that came with being a heartthrob, saying that something he had dreamed of before, as a kid, actually “gave me a tremendous amount of self-doubt and anxiety”.

ONE FOOT AHEAD

Despite its grittiness, Footloose, which also stars Lori Singer, John Lithgow and Sarah Jessica Parker, became loved for its dancing sequences, which Kevin admits took him a while to wrap his head around.
“If I’m being honest, I didn’t even really understand that it was a dance movie. I thought it was just a movie, and then, where they would indicate that there was dancing, I would just get up,” he says.

“They said something about a choreographer and I said, ‘You don’t really need a choreographer. I’ll just get up and dance. It’s not a big deal.

Just play the record for me and I’ll jump around.’ So I was definitely not trained by any stretch of the imagination.”

‘The last thing I wanted to be was a popstar!’ (Image: Getty)

DANCING ONCE AGAIN

Even four decades on, his nonchalance for the film has carried on – he previously admitted to tipping wedding DJs for not playing the famous title song so he didn’t have to dance to it – but he’s since expressed how much the film had changed his life and even slipped back into his dancing shoes to recreate the famous dance scene on TikTok to mark the end of the Hollywood strikes.

Now is it the right time to ask when the sequel is finally coming, Kevin?

We can only dream…

Eric Bana returns to Australia in Force of Nature: The Dry 2 to reprise his role as Aaron Falk, and we as viewers couldn’t help but wonder where the movie was filmed.

Based on the best-selling novels by Jane Harper, we follow detective Aaron Falk as he hunts for the truth. Meanwhile, we hunted for all the filming locations to add to our bucket-list.

We find all The Dry filming locations.

(Image: Roadshow Films)

Force of Nature: The Dry 2 Filming Locations

The most recent adventure for Aaron Falk saw the detective enter the lush green forest that knew no shelter from the chaotic Australian rain – a clear juxtaposition from the first film.

The cold, brutal and wet nature of The Dry 2 filming locations were crucial to the storyline where five women enter and only four women return, all with something to hide from the police.

Working alongside Eric in the new Aussie drama is Deborra-Lee Furness (Jill Bailey), Anna Torv (Alice), Sis Stringer (Beth), Robin McLeavy (Lauren), Lucy Ansell (Bree), Jacqueline McKenzie (Carmen) and Richard Roxburgh (Daniel Bailey).

The Otway National Park.

Force of Nature was filmed in three primary locations in Victoria, Australia including the Yarra Valley and The Dandenongs which is just over an hour drive east from Melbourne city centre.

It was additionally filmed it Cape Otway which is more than a three-hour drive southwest from the Melbourne city centre. The location is known for its National Park, the Light station and the Great Ocean Road which passes through Otway.

The Dry Filming Locations

The first movie, The Dry was released in Australia on January 1, 2021, starring a collection of different stars including Genevieve O’Reilly (Gretchen), Keir O’Donnell (Raco), John Polson (Whitlam), Matthew Nable (Grant Dow), Bebe Bettencourt (Ellie Deacon) and many more.

Unlike the lush greenery of Force of Nature, we see Aaron return to his drought-stricken hometown to attend the funeral of his childhood friend, Luke, who has allegedly killed his wife and child before taking his own life.

The Dry was also filmed in Victoria

But something doesn’t sit right with the Federal Agent, as he discovers this horrific murder could be connected to a murder decades ago.

The Dry filming locations centre in the quiet agricultural town, Beulah in the southern Mallee region. Surrounding the town is the Henty Highway, the banks of the Yarrimabiack Creek, Brim and Hopetoun.

Everything you need to know about the ‘It Ends With Us’ book to movie adaptation https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/movies/it-ends-with-us-movie-79959/ Wed, 31 Jan 2024 05:00:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/movies/it-ends-with-us-movie-79959 Filming has recently wrapped.

The post Everything you need to know about the ‘It Ends With Us’ book to movie adaptation appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
It Ends With Us, the novel by Colleen Hoover, has taken the book world by storm in the past few years.

And, excitingly, the book is being adapted for the screen! Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming It Ends With Us movie.

What is the plot of ‘It Ends With Us’?

It Ends With Us is classified under the “romance” genre, and explores themes of love and abuse.

The film is based on the book of the same name by author Colleen Hoover, which tells the story of Lily who is a recent college graduate who has just moved to a new city looking for a fresh start and then falls in love.

You can purchase the book here for $13.50 from Booktopia.

“Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his ‘no dating’ rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place. As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan — her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened,” the book’s description reads.

However, Colleen herself has confirmed the characters will be older in the movie than they are in the book to make the plot more realistic.

There was a little controversy regarding Blake Lively’s casting as Lily, as she is more than a decade older than her character Lily, who is 23.

Colleen defended the casting choice and admitted that it was actually to rectify a mistake she made when writing the novel.

“Back when I wrote It Ends With Us, the new adult [genre] was very popular,” Colleen said. “You were writing college-age characters. That’s what I was contracted to do.”

The author continued, “I didn’t know that neurosurgeons went to school for 50 years – there’s not a 20-something neurosurgeon. As I started making this movie, I’m like, ‘We need to age them out because I messed up,'” she said. “So that’s my fault.”

(Getty)

Who has been cast in ‘It Ends With Us’?

It Ends With Us will feature a relatively star-studded cast, spearheaded by Blake Lively who will be portraying the main character, as well as Justin Baldoni who is both directing and starring in the film.

The confirmed cast list includes:

 • Blake Lively as Lily Bloom

 • Justin Baldoni as Ryle Kincaid

 • Brandon Sklenar as Atlas Corrigan

 • Jenny Slate as Alyssa

 • Hasan Minhaj as Marshall

 • Isabela Ferrer as Young Lily Bloom

It’s also reported that Alex Neustaedter will be portraying Young Atlas Corrigan, according to Deadline.

When will ‘It Ends With Us’ be released?

In July 2023, Sony Pictures announced that It Ends With Us would be released on 9 February 2024.

However, due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, production was halted. Before the strike, they were last seen filming on 9 June 2023 and the movie was reportedly only about halfway through production at the time (having only started in May).

Production was confirmed to resume in January 2024 after the strike ended, and PEOPLE confirmed in early 2024 that the premiere had been pushed back a few months. It will reportedly now be released on 21 June 2024 in the United States.

The movie is based on the book by the same name.

(Booktopia)

Where can you watch ‘It Ends With Us’?

There’s currently no information about how the It Ends With Us film will be released.

It’s likely that it will be released in cinemas, with the US release date set for 21 June 2024.

Usually, movies are released in Australia a few weeks after America, so we may see it hit screens in early July 2024.

As for streaming, we’re confident that once we get more details about its release, we’ll find out when and where It Ends With Us will be available to watch and stream in Australia.

Has ‘It Ends With Us’ started filming?

Yes! It Ends With Us began filming in May 2023 and reportedly wrapped production in January 2024.

As one of the most influential performers in history, Elvis Presley, the King Of Rock ‘n’ Roll, is well known – but what about his Queen?

Often ignored or pushed aside by biographers, Priscilla Beaulieu remains a huge part of the Elvis story, influencing his personal and professional life, and as fascinating in her own right as her famous husband.

Jacob and Cailee take a moment outwhile shooting a rollerskating scene.

Written and directed by Sophia Coppola, who adapted the story from Priscilla’s memoir “Elvis and Me”, the film shows a woman who despite being caught up in the whirlwind of a megastar’s life, is determined to live her own.

First meeting Elvis (Played by Aussie Jacob Elordi) when he was stationed in Germany after World War II and she was just a teenage girl living on a military base with her Air Force officer father, it was love at first sight for both but a relationship that raised eyebrows from the start.

Priscilla and Elvis married in 1967, when she was 21.

(Supplied)

“Just what is the intent here Mr Presley?” asks Priscilla’s stunned father when the 24-year-old star asks his 14-year-old daughter on a date.

“Well sir, I happen to be very fond of your daughter,” Elvis replies, hinting at the obsession that was to follow.

Cailee earned a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal.

(Supplied)

Lured to Memphis, Priscilla fell into Elvis’s rock and roll lifestyle, watching as the man she loved danced through fame, affairs and a growing drug dependency, ignoring all the red flags to marry him in 1967.

“I need a woman who understands that things like this might happen,” Elvis says, setting the stage for what would become their life of pretending everything was as perfect as The King’s publicists made them out to be.

Elvis tried to control what his wife wore, but she rebelled as she grew confident.

Together until his death in 1977, Priscilla’s life and story is a much-needed reality check for the Elvis myth – and with the real Priscilla Presley as executive producer, no doubt one based on real events.

Priscilla is currently available for viewing in cinemas in Australia, however, watch this space to discover which streaming platform Priscilla will be hitting.

Zac Efron & Jeremy Allen White discuss brotherhood, bonds and the brutal home truths of The Iron Claw https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/movies/the-iron-claw-zac-efron-jeremy-allen-white-79794/ Sun, 14 Jan 2024 19:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/movies/the-iron-claw-zac-efron-jeremy-allen-white-79794 Ring of truth.

For those who know the story behind Texas professional wrestling icons the Von Erich family, The Iron Claw will serve as a poignant reminder of what they achieved despite the tragedies that resulted.

While it centres around four brothers as they strive to become wrestling champions, led by their former athlete father Fritz, the story is a complex examination of mental health, toxic masculinity and resilience.

Zac and Jeremy play brothers.

(Image: Supplied)

The siblings enjoyed great success in the ring, but the “Von Erich Curse” led to the early death of five out of six brothers. (One brother is mentioned in the film, but shown only briefly, while the other was omitted from the story.)

Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Harris Dickinson and Stanley Simons play brothers Kevin, Kerry, David and Mike, with Holt McCallany and Maura Tierney as their parents Fritz and Doris.

Zac and Jeremy tell TV WEEK the film spoke to them on several levels.

“I’ve always enjoyed leaving it all on the field, but you have to sit back and take stock,” Zac, 36, says. “These guys were driven to greatness by their father in a somewhat overbearing way. While it led them to greatness in wrestling, it wasn’t the most well-rounded way to grow up. It was tough.”

“These guys were driven to greatness by their father.”

(Image: Supplied)

For Jeremy, who just won a Golden Globe Award for his role in comedy drama series The Bear, says while the themes of darkness were ever-present, he found a way to access what was needed to portray Kerry.

“There wasn’t anything specific for me, but the idea of a loss or wanting to be accepted and validated is so human and universal,” the 32-year-old says. “During filming, we were dealing with all of that and walking this tightrope.

“I was comfortable enough with these guys to stay close to the feelings I needed for the role. When I’m in a new place and isolated in the experience, I can stay close to what’s called for. But the film makes us ask what’s necessary to succeed and necessary to persevere.”

To portray the wrestling stars, the actors both put on muscle and weight by eating lots of heavy fats and carbohydrates in addition to maintaining an intense exercise regimen.

“The wigs and wardrobes definitely helped separate myself from the character,” Jeremy explains. “Sometimes I’d catch myself in the mirror and get nervous, but it helps.” [Laughs]

Zac, who put on seven kilograms of muscle, concurs, adding that it was the best – but most challenging – way to prepare for a role.

“And it shows,” he says of the physical transformations on screen. “I’ve admired actors who commit to those transformations and always wondered if I could do it. I’m proud that I could – but it was hard – really hard.”

Long before he was the ruler of Panem, a teenage Coriolanus Snow was fighting to survive.

The last child in a once-proud family now facing financial ruin, he finds himself carrying the dreams of his clan to rule.

Lucy’s spark of defiance catches his interest.

(Image: Supplied)

To get there, however, he’ll need money to attend the Panem Academy… and the only way he can do that is by taking part in something he’s never really agreed with: the hyper-violent Hunger Games – not as a tribute, fighting other representatives of the 13 Panem Districts, but as a mentor, teaching one competitor whatever he can to keep them alive.

“What are the Hunger Games for?” Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) is asked before he meets his tribute, the charismatic Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) from District 12 – a girl whose spark of defiance catches his interest.

“The Hunger Games are to punish the districts,” he replies, but more importantly, they’re a path to power he’s willing to follow. It means he’ll do anything to make sure Lucy will win.

The fifth movie in The Hunger Games, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes series based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling books is set years before the story of Katniss Everdeen.

It shows how the Games came to have such a huge importance to Panem, the fractured nation made up of what was left of America after a catastrophic war.

Viola Davis and Peter Dinklage co-star as the original Games designers, with Jason Schwartzman as its founding television host.

We learn how the brutal spectacle was born, how love and betrayal warped the young Coriolanus into the absolute dictator Katniss battled, and why he found her so challenging years later.

Setting up the foundations for the story fans have come to know, this is a fitting first chapter and explains many of the missing moments and motivations of the later films.

The Hunger Games, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes has quickly become a fan-favourite, and topped the box office in the US in its opening week with $44 million. Globally, it opened at $100 million (USD) in its first week.

Plus, the film will also feature cameo performances from Australian musicians including Adam Briggs and Dallas Woods.

Binge Executive Director and Foxtel Group Commissioning and Content, Alison Hurbert-Burns said:

Damon Herriman will feature in the film.

“It’s a great privilege to bring Paul Kelly’s iconic song to the screen,” she began.

“I’ve listened to the song for decades, often on my own Christmas road trip, conjuring up the characters, wondering if Stella made her flight and if the brothers made it down from Queensland. Come 2024, at last we’ll know!

“And with an all-star cast, and such talented creatives in Nick and Meg and our production partners at Warner Bros, we can’t wait to share it with Australia, in what we hope will become a beloved addition to Gravy Day, for many years to come.”

The song ‘How to Make Gravy,’ was released in 1996 and instantly became a Christmas tradition for millions of families across Australia.

Song to movie is no ordinary concept, meaning the crew must be extraordinary! How to Make Gravy was adapted by award-winning musician Meg Washington and Nick Waterman who is also the director.

Hamish Lewis and Academy Award-nominated producer Schulyer Weiss will also produce the Binge original feature film which is currently underway in production on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

The release date for How to Make Gravy is yet to be confirmed.

Margot Robbie and the cast of the doll-inspired film discuss breaking Barbie etiquette https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/movies/barbie-margot-robbie-78201/ Tue, 12 Sep 2023 03:00:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/movies/barbie-margot-robbie-78201 ‘It’s a different world'

Five years ago, Margot Robbie was circling the entertainment industry with a Barbie film in mind. When the time was right, her production company LuckyChap Entertainment, which she operates alongside husband Tom Ackerley, took their pitch to toy company Mattel.

“It just seemed like a big, exciting and scary opportunity,” Margot, 32, says of taking on Barbie during her media tour of Australia. “The word itself is globally recognised and people have very strong feelings about Barbie, in different ways, so it seemed like a good place to start.

Barbie is written and directed by Greta Gerwig.

“You can love, hate or be indifferent to Barbie and still enjoy this film. We felt we could do something special with it.”

Barbie is written and directed by Greta Gerwig, known for 2017’s Lady Bird and Little Women in 2019. To bring Barbie into the modern era, she had to acknowledge her flaws – which since the doll launched in 1959 have been a point of contention in that she seemingly has none – and be someone who resonated with the audience.

“I think this film can cut across generations and genders,” she says. “Everyone can find a pink, glittery existential dance party in their heart.”

“I didn’t want to portray Barbie as being vapid in any way.”

For America Ferrera, who is of Honduran descent and didn’t grow up playing with Barbie, joining the cast as Gloria was an opportunity to open up the world.

“I never imagined myself in something like this, but this film feels important,” America, 39, says. “Throughout the legacy, there were times Barbie was a revolution and other times when she was way behind her time and needed to catch up.

“I get to be part of a moment that is expanding an iconic female character to include more of us who feel valued and represented.”

In the film, Margot plays Stereotypical Barbie.

Issa Rae, who plays President Barbie, says joining the cast was a “no-brainer”, but did so carefully, ensuring there were no concerns around tokenism.

“My concern was being tokenised and who else was being represented. But walking on set, all my fears were quelled,” Issa, 38, says. “There was diversity of all types.”

In the film, Margot plays Stereotypical Barbie, who is expelled from Barbie Land for being less than perfect and is forced to go on a journey of self-discovery in the real world. Along for the ride is Ken, played by Ryan Gosling.

“I didn’t want to portray Barbie as being vapid in any way,” Margot says. “The way our story is constructed, she can be anything – president, a Nobel Prize winner etc. You see how intelligent she is, but she hasn’t been exposed to as many concepts as she would in the real world.

“It’s a fine line of naivety without being unintelligent.”

(Image: Supplied)

“It’s a fine line of naivety without being unintelligent. We can play it up at times, but also tap into deeper conversations.”

No matter how you feel about Barbie, or what you think the film will be, Margot insists it’s a film “for everyone”.

“It’s a great movie,” she says. “You should watch it because it’s so well-crafted. We have cast and crew who are working at the highest level. But it also happens to be extremely fun.”

As of September 12, Barbie is available for steaming – digitally own or rent for 48-hours – on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Foxtel Store and many more.

Ten years ago, Marvel announced they were making their quirkiest film to date. With little known about the script and a cast of unknown actors on the call list, pressure rocketed. Critics panned the premise and casting, tipping it was likely to fail.

But when it was released in 2014, Guardians Of The Galaxy became the third-highest-grossing film of the year, taking in more than US$700 million at the box office.

For Chris Pratt, at the time best known for his work in US sitcom Parks And Recreation, says he was determined not to audition for the superhero film.

It was “partly because I had been rejected so many times” in other films of the same genre, but also because he was carving out a new path for himself, in both a personal and professional sense.

“In the summers [in between Parks And Recreation], I would be doing critically acclaimed movies, while also physically changing my body to play a Navy SEAL in [thriller film] Zero Dark Thirty,” Chris, 43, tells TV WEEK.

“I remember my mindset and self-perception shifting away from the guy who would likely be relegated to the funny, sweaty, fat, sidekick, to something more. I still wanted to do an action film and be funny, but just in my way.”

Baby Rocket!

Chris Pratt couldn’t wait to join the superhero world.

With some convincing, Chris met director James Gunn, who was struggling to find the right actor to play Peter Quill.

“We wanted someone to breathe their own life into the role,” James, 56, says. “I had easily read [auditioned] 200 people before Chris, and the actors didn’t quite fit the character. He blew me away.”

As they pair team up once more for the final instalment, both admit that they, along with the rest of the cast, shed a few tears.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3 follows the misfit bunch – Quill, Nebula (Karen Gillan), Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (Vin Diesel), Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) – on a mission to not just defend humanity, but one of their own against evil threats that could tear them apart.

WATCH: Zoe Saldana: 25 Things You Don’t Know About Me. Article continues after the video.

Karen Gillan says it wasn’t easy to bring her character Nebula’s arc to an end, one that has evolved through several sequels and Avengers spin-offs.

“I was in denial,” Karen, 35, jokes of saying goodbye. “I’ve been with Nebula for nearly a decade and it’s extraordinary to show different sides of her. It’s been a fascinating exploration.”

The Scottish actress experienced cult fandom before any of the others thanks to her breakout role in UK sci-fi favourite Doctor Who. She says youth [she won the role when she was 21] played a part in her “blind optimism”. She had no idea what was coming.

“I was young and naive, so I thought lots of things came with that level of fandom, but I was more intimidated to join the Marvel universe; it was more removed from where I am from.”

“It’s been a fascinating exploration.”

(Image: Supplied)

While it’s goodbye to the guardians, it’s unlikely it’s farewell to each other. And perhaps not to Nebula.

“I could keep going with that forever!” Karen says, adding that the cast will never forget what they created.

“We’ve been through so much,” she says. “None of us, apart from Zoe, had much of a film career, so we were all catapulted together. When you go through changes like that, it bonds you forever.”

NAIDOC Week (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) 2023 follows the theme of ‘For Our Elders’ to honour and celebrate all they have done for the community and families.

Elders’ “tenacity and strength” have carried Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the stolen generation. Now Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike come together to honour them.

The theme is ‘For Our Elders’.

“The equality that we continue to fight for is found in their fight,” the National NAIDOC Committee said in a statement revealing this year’s theme.

“Their tenacity and strength has carried the survival of our people. It is their influence, and through their learnings that we must that when it comes to future decision making for our people, there is nothing about us, without us.”

There are a number of documentaries, movies and television shows which education people on the story of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

And with the vote regarding Indigenous Voice to Parliament happening this year, there is no better time to education yourself. But what is on offer?

The First Nations Film Festival will run from July 2 to July 31, 2023, to showcase six new feature films, a collection of short films and a special live Q&A session to honor First Nations artists and filmmakers.

The festival will also feature stories of Indigenous dancers, ancestral rites and the journey of Aboriginal community leaders.

One film in particular, The Grey Line will tell the story of Helen Dwyer, who suffered intergenerational trauma and was raised by a non-Indigenous foster family after being a member of Stolen Generation.

The First Nations short films and Q&A will be held on July 5 with proud First Nations actor James Williams as moderator, Director of Social Justice and Regional Engagement at The Fred Hollows Foundation Jaki Adams and The Grey Line producer Kayah Wills.

Netflix is also offering a ‘First Nations Forever’ page to its members and features 37 films focusing on Indigenous Australian stories. Among the collection include The Last Daughters, Preppers, The Warriors and children’s programs Little J & Big Cuz, Barrumbi Kids and We Are Still Here.

In Indiana Jones’ final chapter, Harrison Ford and the cast of the Dial of Destiny revisit the past https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/movies/indiana-jones-and-the-dial-of-destiny-78045/ Sun, 25 Jun 2023 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/movies/indiana-jones-and-the-dial-of-destiny-78045 ''It’s a splendid goodbye.''

The post In Indiana Jones’ final chapter, Harrison Ford and the cast of the Dial of Destiny revisit the past appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
Growing up, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen devoured the adventures of Indiana Jones. He even remembers watching the first film in the franchise, 1981’s Raiders Of The Lost Ark, for the first time. He and his brother had rented it from the local video store with five other films.

“We ended up watching Indiana five times, and not the other films,” Mads, 57, tells TV WEEK with a laugh. “It’s true to say it shaped our generation. As a teenager, I didn’t aspire to become an actor – like everyone else, I just wanted to be Indiana Jones.”

“I met Indy before I met Harrison.”

(Image: Supplied)

Four decades later, the actor is living out his dream in the concluding chapter, Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny. Mads had never met Harrison Ford, who has played the titular role since 1981, before arriving on set. Now, it’s a moment he won’t ever forget.

“When I went to meet him, Indiana Jones stepped out of the trailer instead,” he says. “He was doing dress rehearsals at the time, so he was wearing the hat, jacket and whip. I met Indy before I met Harrison.

“But he’s an amazing actor to work with – a nice guy and a true legend because he doesn’t behave like one.”

Reviving the franchise after 15 years is no easy task, but Harrison says he “was ambitious for it” if the script was right.

Jürgen Voller (Mads) is on the hunt!

(Image: Supplied)

“I’d always wanted to round out the story with seeing Indy towards the end of his career – towards the end of his life, even,” the 80-year-old explains. “We’ve demonstrated his strengths over the course of four movies. Now, we’re entering a new phase of his life. And we’re seeing him after an absence of 15 years.”

In the film, former Nazi-turned-physicist Jürgen Voller (Mads) is on the hunt for a mythical ancient dial that has the power to reverse time and history. But he’s not the only one.

Archaeology student Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) has ties to the device and needs it to get out of trouble. She seeks out the one person who can help her find it: her estranged godfather, Indiana Jones.

For one final adventure, Indy is dragged out of his present slump and into the past – in more ways than one.

“Indiana has aged somewhat and is on the last day before his retirement from academic life, which hasn’t been inspiring for him. His weaknesses are the ravages of time,” Harrison says. “Then we introduce Helena, who stimulates the plot.”

Fleabag star Phoebe brings a modern feminist perspective to the 1960s, a decade that wasn’t necessarily progressive for women.

“There’s something fresh and charming about her, even though she’s morally questionable,” Phoebe, 37, says. “She brings a passion for archaeology and for adventure, and I think that lights up Indy again. And I think she’s very clever for doing that, because she actually has her own agenda.”

Despite fans’ excitement surrounding the film’s release, Harrison has confirmed this is the last. He’s finally hanging up the hat, but it doesn’t mean he’s letting go.

Four decades later, Harrison is living out his dream.

(Image: Supplied)

“When it’s received with the warmth and generosity that Indiana Jones has over this period, it’s an incredible generosity to me; I take it personally and it means a great deal,” he says. “It feels good [saying goodbye], because I feel we’ve made a really satisfying film for the audience.

“We’ve taken our concern, our interest in the character, and tried to shape a story that would bring back this character into their lives with an interesting story. It’s a splendid goodbye.”

Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried explore the darkness of the mind in crime drama The Crowded Room https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/movies/the-crowded-room-77918/ Sun, 11 Jun 2023 20:30:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/movies/the-crowded-room-77918 Mind over matter.

The post Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried explore the darkness of the mind in crime drama The Crowded Room appeared first on Now To Love.

Known best for his superhero action skills, Tom Holland is showing that his talent goes far beyond the Spider-Man suit in his latest project. How far ?

In The Crowded Room, the actor explores the darkness of mental health and how it penetrates the human condition – in ways unimaginable.

Tom is portrayed in a darker light than seen in Spider-Man.

(Image: Supplied)

The psychological thriller follows lonely teenager Danny Sullivan, who is arrested after a shooting at New York’s Rockefeller Centre in 1979. But what caused it to happen and is he truly at fault?

Leading the investigation is clinical psychologist Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried) who attempts to understand Danny and what led to the terrible events.

From his disturbing childhood and subsequent mental health problems, the case becomes less of a whodunnit and more of an intimate look into the trauma of one man and how it shaped his actions.

The movie has an intimate look into the trauma of one man.

(Image: Supplied)

“The mental aspect really beat me up…”

(Image: Supplied)

Inspired by a true story and based on the 1981 novel The Minds Of Billy Milligan, the 10-part series has been passed around Hollywood for years, but never taken up by a studio. At one time, Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio was attached to the project.

Now, Tom has been granted an opportunity to explore his dramatic side – and chose to do the project without reading much of the script. But the role, he says, took a heavy toll.

The series also stars Shameless actress Emmy Rossum as Danny’s mum and Zachary Golinger as a young Danny.

“The mental aspect really beat me up and took me a long time to recover afterwards, to sort of get back to reality,” the British actor told Entertainment Weekly.

“I remember having a bit of a meltdown at home and thinking, like, ‘I’m going to shave my head. I need to shave my head to get rid of this character.”

While he didn’t actually go through with it, immersing himself in the world of a real-life figure wasn’t easy. The Crowded Room is a work of fiction and told through a heightened lens, but Billy Milligan and his court case were real.

Without revealing too many spoilers, the story switches between past and present day as Danny recounts his story. And what happens beyond the crime that starts it all is far more shocking than you think.

Halle Bailey brings Ariel to life in The Little Mermaid remake https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/movies/the-little-mermaid-disney-remake-77820/ Mon, 29 May 2023 06:13:07 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/movies/the-little-mermaid-disney-remake-77820 ''I feel so grateful to be in this position!''

The post Halle Bailey brings Ariel to life in The Little Mermaid remake appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
The classic tale of the mermaid who dreams of walking on land is the latest Disney flick to get a live-action remake, and fans are thrilled.

A revamp of the 1998 animated film of the same name, The Little Mermaid tells the much-loved tale of the spirited young mermaid Ariel (Halle Bailey), who lives in a world under the sea ruled by her father, King Triton (Javier Bardem).

Fascinated by the human existence above, Ariel visits the surface, where she falls for the dashing Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King). Making a deal with the sea witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), Ariel is given the chance to walk on land, but in doing so puts her life in jeopardy.

While the new film is very similar to the animated flick we all know and love, Halle says the remake, directed by Rob Marshall, has been updated for a modern audience.

“I’m excited for my version of the film, because we’ve definitely changed that perspective of just her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy,” Halle, 23, told Edition. “It’s way bigger than that: it’s about herself, her purpose, her freedom and what she wants.”

The Grown-ish star is also making history as the first woman of colour to portray the Disney princess – and her portrayal has been widely celebrated by critics. The actress says representation in films such as The Little Mermaid is imperative for youngsters.

“I feel so grateful to be in this position honestly,” Halle told our sister site WHO Magazine at the Sydney premiere.

“Ariel was my favourite princess and to have the chance to be part of the reimagination where I get to play her and represent for this new generation – especially seeing the reactions of all the black and brown little girls and boys who get to see themselves in me – it’s truly an honour and I’m so grateful to be here.”

Halle’s performance of Part Of Your World has been called “beautiful” by critics.

Halle spent nearly a year filming, saying that the underwater scenes were particularly taxing. She reportedly spent 13 hours in the water some days, with hours in a harness.

“I pushed myself as far as I’ve ever pushed myself in my life,” she admitted. “And I feel like the message from Ariel was to know that you’ve always had it in you.”

The Little Mermaid is in cinemas now. You can also catch the animated original on Disney Plus.

The post EXCLUSIVE: Chris Evans and Ana De Armas talk about their new roles in Ghosted appeared first on Now To Love.

Chris Evans is back – but in this movie, he won’t be swinging an indestructible shield as Captain America. In fact, in Ghosted, he’s very much not the hero.

“One of the appealing parts of this movie was to be able to play a character who wasn’t the hero,” Chris, 41, tells TV WEEK. “[He’s] a guy who doesn’t know what he’s doing; who is incapable.”

Chris isn’t the hero anymore!

(Image: Supplied)

The film follows Cole (Chris), who falls madly in love with Sadie (Ana De Armas) after a chance meeting and whirlwind first date. While he thinks the date went well, he’s ultimately “ghosted”, a Millennial phenomenon whereby the person you’re interested in ceases all communication with no explanation.

Refusing to take no for an answer, Cole travels to find Sadie for a chance at love, only for the second date he’d dreamed of to be turned into an international mission to save the world with a girl who isn’t just his love interest, but a secret agent leading a double life.

“In terms of the gender norms, these big action movies are typically swapped,” Chris says. “So, a movie like this is refreshing and fun when you have this kind of role reversal of what we expect in film or from social norms.”

Sadie is living a double life.

(Image: Supplied)

Ana, 34, famous for her roles as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde and the James Bond film No Time To Die, reveals she went through a gruelling training program to do a lot of the stunts herself.

“It’s very empowering to learn all these things and be able to do it yourself,” she explains. “Of course, you do have a stunt double next to you in case you need her, but to pull off this stuff is pretty cool. It feels like all the hard work was for a good reason.”

Chris and Ana were also excited to be working together again, having previously co-starred in the fan favourite mystery Knives Out, as well as Netflix’s action-packed thriller The Gray Man. It makes Ghosted the pair’s third on-screen collaboration.

WATCH: A day in the life of the new Bond girl, Ana de Armas. Article continues after the video.

But gender norms and familiar faces aside, the film really is about finding love in an unexpected place.

“Sadie’s afraid of loving someone and losing them, because she’s lost people in the past and has based her entire life on her career and that’s her excuse,” Ana tells TV WEEK. “Cole is a farmer who’s helping his dad, because he’s afraid of writing a book and travelling the world and being judged.

“Getting out of your comfort zone is uncomfortable for everyone and something we can all relate to.”

Chris thinks that while Cole is obviously on a search for love, even though Sadie seems to be complete without it, perhaps a little love is all she needs.

They’ve starred in three movies together.

“Maybe even the toughest of us, the people who seem most independent, still to some degree need that missing piece,” he says.

But would Chris would actually message someone 11 times in a row, as Cole does in the film, in real life?

“If I was really into her, maybe,” he teases. “I’d learn the hard way.”

The post Sam Neill and Patrick Gibson discuss success, friendship and the great surprises in life appeared first on Now To Love.

Despite his global fame, Sam Neill has never been in the headlines more than he is now – and he’d rather be anywhere else.

The release of Stan’s original film The Portable Door coincides with the publication of the actor’s memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This?, a reflective look back on his early life and career.

In it, the New Zealand native reveals he was diagnosed with stage three angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma – a type of blood cancer – in 2022 after discovering a lump in his neck during media commitments for Jurassic World: Dominion.

The news caused a frenzy online. But Sam, who has been in remission for eight months, insists he’s healthy and isn’t slowing down.

Middle manager Dennish is a charasmatic villain disrupting the world of magic.

(IMAGE: Stan)

In fact, his latest project, The Portable Door, allowed him to be ”larger than life” in every way.

The film follows Paul Carpenter (Patrick Gibson), an intern at the mysterious London firm JW Wells & Co, who discovers his new workplace has a hidden agenda – and a magical door – that can transform the corporate world.

CEO Humphrey Wells (Christoph Waltz) and manager Dennis Tanner (Sam) are behind the idea– but are they as they seem?

”I don’t get asked to play a character like this very often,” Sam, 75, tells TV WEEK.

”I love to play the bad guy, and Dennis switches loyalties every five minutes.”

Miranda Otto plays Countess Judy while Sophie Wilde is Sophie Pettingel.

(IMAGE: Stan)

Patrick jokes that Sam is the complete opposite off screen – ”he’s rather boring, which is a testament to his acting ability,” he says with a laugh – but that joining a cast of stars such as Sam, Christoph, Sophie Wilde and Miranda Otto, provided an acting masterclass.

”I relate to Paul,” the Irish star of US fantasy series Shadow And Bone says.

”He goes for a job he doesn’t know much about and is trying to find his place in the world, always saying the wrong thing.

A younger me can relate to that. [Laughs]

“But I like that someone like him can become a hero.”

Patrick, 27, also became fast friends with Sam, who he says he knows ”almost too well now”, causing them both to laugh.

Lowly interns Sophie and Paul try to crack the mystery of a lost ”portable door.”

(IMAGE: Stan)

Sam, whose career has spanned several genres and decades, says penning his memoir allowed him to reflect on his life and embrace how far he’s come.

The most rewarding part of it wasn’t the blockbuster films or celebrity tales, but the chance to relive his childhood.

”You spend a lot of your life not looking back,” he says.

”And I often think life is like being on a train and you’re not sure where it’s going to go [when the tracks diverge] until someone pulls the lever. I got an opportunity to stop the train and look back and see where I’ve been.

”Being with my parents [Dermot and Priscilla] again – they were adorable and eccentric. Just thinking about the mad and peculiar stuff they did in my childhood was enjoyable.”

Jurassic Park made Sam a Hollywood star.

When writing about his career, Sam doesn’t hold back, from his breakout role in 1979’s My Brilliant Career, to the 1993 box-office smash Jurassic Park, and the relationships – and fallouts – he’s had in between.

As the dinosaur franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary, Sam admits his most famous

role was a ”big surprise”.

”Jurassic Park has certainly touched people’s lives,” he says.

”I was cast four weeks before we started filming. I had no idea – apart from Steven Spielberg directing it, who has hardly ever had a dud – that it would be as big as it was. To be in that was,

and is, still a big surprise.

”I never thought I’d have a career as an actor – let alone an actor on screen. So, I’m still surprised when the phone rings. It’s been incredibly rewarding.”

EXCLUSIVE: Star Wars star John Boyega’s blockbuster new role https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/movies/john-boyega-movies-77093/ Thu, 30 Mar 2023 03:00:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/movies/john-boyega-movies-77093 John Boyega is a man on the brink in Breaking!

On the morning of July 7, 2017, Brian Brown-Easley entered a Wells Fargo bank in Atlanta to make a withdrawal. He handed the bank teller a note that read, ”I have a bomb.”

As panic ensued, Brian didn’t yell at the customers or demand bags of money – he let them all leave with the exception of two staff members.

He also said he had no intention of hurting anyone – he just wanted to be heard.

So what did he want? Precisely $892, owed to him by the Department of Veteran Affairs which had stopped his monthly disability payments.

Brian has been driven to extremes.

(IMAGE: Supplied)

At the age of 33, Lance Corporal Easley faced homelessness and was struggling with mental health. Now he was desperate, and this would be the last day of his life.

When John Boyega read the script, which was sent to him by screenwriter Kwame Kwei-Armah who also gave him his first acting job, he was instantly compelled to play Brian.

”It was almost a sign that I should do it,” John, 31, says of receiving the script from Kwame.

”I was emotionally drained by the time I read it; it was a journey and one I wanted to go on.”

John Boyega has been in three Star Wars films.

(IMAGE: LucasFilm)

John put on weight, shaved his head, wore glasses and a grey hoodie similar to what Brian wore on that fateful day. And there was a shift in mannerisms. Friends, family and even the hostages described Brian as respectful and quiet.

”I was fortunate to speak to his ex-wife Jessica and she heard the deepness in my voice and said, ‘make sure you’re soft. Brian has a softness in his voice’,” he says.

”I’m from south London. You hear me when I walk into the room, so those notes were so helpful.”

The result is a true departure from anything the actor has done before.

”I felt I disappear into this role,” he says.

WATCH NOW: John Boyega opens up about the ”Star Wars” curse. Article continues after video.

”Breaking was actually playing on a flight I was on. There was a woman watching it – she was teary-eyed and kept adjusting the volume because she was getting shocked or scared in moments – and she would’ve seen me many times during the flight as we passed each other a lot. But she didn’t recognise me at all – and I helped her with her bags! But I didn’t say anything; I wanted to let her stay in it.”

While known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars franchise, John isn’t rushing back to the blockbuster films. Instead, he’s on a mission to do it all – in one form or another.

”It was important that in between episode eight and nine [of Star Wars], I did other things – whether that be a play or just a contrasting project,” John says.

”Some of us have heard about the ‘Star Wars curse’, when people don’t see you as anything else, so these roles after that are dedicated to exploring different things and people.”

”You have to embrace it all, and I’m really enjoying it.”

So yeah, the first time seeing J.W. Wells’ office and all that was pretty special,” Patrick told us.

”Weird Al” Yankovich sets the record straight about his not in the least bit fictional biopic https://www.nowtolove.com.au/entertainment/movies/weird-al-yankovich-daniel-radcliffe-76865/ Sun, 26 Feb 2023 20:00:00 +0000 https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/movies/weird-al-yankovich-daniel-radcliffe-76865 ''I hope Madonna is OK.''

The post ”Weird Al” Yankovich sets the record straight about his not in the least bit fictional biopic appeared first on Now To Love.

]]>
The queen of pop herself, Madonna, in a wild affair with the king of parody, ”Weird Al” Yankovic?

That’s a truly bizarre plotline in the ridiculously entertaining biopic, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

But what does Madonna herself have to say about it?

”We’ve heard zero from the Madonna camp,” Al, 63, tells TV WEEK from Los Angeles.

”We didn’t get anybody’s permission ahead of time, as far as characters go. We were told by our legal team they’re public figures, so they’re fair game. Just go and shoot your script as written … and hopefully they’ll be fine with it.”

The real ”Weird Al” with Evan and Daniel.

(IMAGE: Supplied)

In the movie, Madonna, played by Evan Rachel Wood, seduces Al (Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe) to boost her career.

”We dearly hope Madonna is OK with it and understands it’s a joke,” Al implores.

”Honestly, I don’t know. I’d like to think she’s at least heard of it [the movie].

Or maybe it’s not even on her radar.”

Is that you, Harry? Daniel Radcliffe plays Al as his star rose in the 1980s.

(IMAGE: Supplied)

Almost certainly, the Material Girl would know about the movie, which last month scooped two awards – Best Made For Television Movie and Best Actor for Daniel Radcliffe at the Critic’s Choice awards.

Truth is, Madge and Al have a history together dating all the way back to his 1985 hit, ‘‘Like A Surgeon”, a humorous take on her worldwide hit song, ”Like A Virgin”.

If you believe Al, Madonna actually had a hand in his song.

”Madonna was talking to a friend of hers one day and wondered out loud, ‘I wonder when Weird Al is going to get around to doing ‘Like A Surgeon’,”’ Al recalls.

”Her friend knew my manager and relayed the story back to me. I thought, ‘That’s not a bad idea – maybe I will.’

”So, she’s indirectly responsible for that parody.”

In the new movie, Al and Madonna are in love.

(IMAGE: Supplied)

The movie tracks Al’s life from his humble beginnings as an accordion-playing outsider to pop parody superstar and eventually a crazy run-in with a crime cartel.

The genesis of the movie can be traced to a trailer for a fake Al biopic he and director Eric Appel did for comedy site Funny Or Die in 2010.

The project took flight after Al saw the success of 2018 Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and 2019’s Rocket Man, based on the life of Elton John.

At the time, Al bemoaned to Eric that the films were ”taking liberties with the truth, changing facts and messing with the chronology of events”.

Al told Eric they should make a ”Weird Al” movie, ”but just have it go completely off the rails, and not even pay attention to the facts”.

Daniel looks very different here…

(IMAGE: Supplied)

According to Al, Daniel was the perfect guy to play him, because they needed someone who knew how to do comedy, but who could also ”play it completely straight”.

”We wanted it to have the feel of a serious Oscar-bait biopic,” Al says.

”Daniel had the right energy for that.”

WATCH NOW: Daniel Radcliffe interested in new Harry Potter movie. Article continues after video.

Next month, Al is bringing his band to Australia for a series of anticipated shows playing four decades worth of material. Given the success of his movie, could we see more of him – or someone playing him – on our screens?

”My knee-jerk response is of course not,” he says.

”But Eric is already floating the idea of a sequel [to the movie]. We could be the first biopic in history that ever got a sequel.”

That would be suitably weird.
